Myrtia — Restaurant in Municipality of Nea Smyrni

I am writing this review from the Athens International Airport at 6am so bear with me as I try to describe the awesomeness that is this place. As a Greek-American, I dine here every single summer without fail and never once have I had a bad, or even 'okay', experience. Everything, from the delicious food to the friendly service, is top-notch and the owners are always welcoming and fun. In fact, I always make a note of it to eat at Myrtiá on our last night in Greece to ASSURE a great time because choosing other restaurants may be a gamble ("Save the best for last", if you will). I won't even list what my family and I ordered because this review would run on for paragraphs (not kidding), so please trust me when I say that every item we ordered was completely and utterly enjoyable. I have been there a few times. Generally top class grilling, but never really astonished enough to put a 5star. What astonished me today is that I took one liver and a salad. Afterwards I paid the bill and he offered me dessert. It was...2 plates of loukoumades (fried pancake balls) consisting of 12 ballls each, one with honey cover, the other with chocolate cover. I felt oblidged and ordered him to bring me another two plates to take away for which I would pay. He returns with the extra two plates and says 'its all on me'. In the end I left the place with two bags of 30 loukoumades each bag, all gift! The place has bad ventilation, smoking is allowed, so if you are a nonsmoker better avoid it, there is nothing worthy in that restaurant the experience of the skoke.

The place is famous for the large portions, which are large indeed but pricey. The size of the portion it comes in a price, while the quality is average. Nothing special at all. The cooking oil they use for the starters most probably is overused. The starters had a that bad taste from the cooking oil. The wine was very bad, i suggest against that, almost like vinegar. They offer donuts for dessert, which are ok, but you have overpaid them with the rest.
