You might not expect to find truly great Mexican food in the middle of Athens — but then again, food isn’t always about what makes sense. Sometimes it’s about what makes you feel.
And Amigos in Nea Smyrni is one of those places that does exactly that.
From the outside, it might just look like another restaurant. But the moment you walk in, something shifts. There’s an energy here — warm, open, real. Dimitri and his team don’t just serve food; they welcome you in like they’ve known you forever. It’s not about service with a smile — it’s about genuine hospitality that you don’t forget.
The food? As bold and authentic as you’d hope for — full of flavor, tradition, and care. But it’s the whole experience that stays with you. The vibe, the music, the effortless way it all comes together. You’re not rushed. You’re not managed. You’re looked after.
And if you’re into tequila, you’re in good hands. This is more than just a restaurant — it’s a proper tequileria. Ask the team for a recommendation, and trust them. They know their stuff.
I’m not saying I’m an expert in food — but I know what it feels like to be in a place where every detail is taken care of and nothing feels forced. That’s what you’ll find here.
So if you’re in the mood for more than just a meal — if you’re after something that feels effortless and real — go to Amigos Nea Smyrni. It’s the kind of place you’ll want to come back to before...
Read moreIt's very disappointing for a well-known and renowned restaurant to ruin your afternoon and fill you with negative emotions due to poor food quality and staff behavior. Today, we visited Amigos in Nea Smyrni once again. The service upon arrival was warm and friendly, but the experience quickly went downhill. During our order, the waitress who served us was cold and almost seemed as if she didn't want to work. After placing our order, we received a sauce as an appetizer, which was delayed, causing us to finish the other appetizers before its arrival. One of the main dishes was chicken fajitas, priced at over €22 and listed as containing 350 grams of chicken. To our surprise, when the dish arrived, the chicken was less than 100 grams, with the rest being large pieces of onions and peppers. We also ordered beef chimichangas, which was greasy and had dry beef. The issue here was that the salad and corn were pre-packaged, and the rice with vegetables that accompanied it was pre-cooked. The overall quality has significantly dropped. Two people paid €63 without cocktails, we did not enjoy our meal, and we left dissatisfied. The uninterested staff never cared if their service or the dishes were adequate. I feel sorry for the restaurant because it has a name and reputation that is being tarnished by...
Read moreGreat service, the place feels like an actual restaurant instead of a fast food 🌮 place. I loved the Mexican dishes and the Nacho's are amazing. I found some dishes to be more expensive in a value for size prespective. Another thing worth mentioning is that even though the place gets crowded quite often they won't accept reservations so you never know if you will have to wait in queue to get a table or not. Especially if you have more or less people accompany you than the table available they will most likely let you wet for the right size table to be available rather than give you a bigger table. That's because they know they will eventually fill the hole place they will still have a big waiting line too. I think they should change the booking policy and intention to fill the tables only with groups of the right number of people. The drinks though are very decent both in quality and price and the small bar next to the entrance has great decorations and nice atmosphere.
In general, it's a great experience but you may don't find a table and if you don't know the menu you might end up getting something that is not worth the money...
