I went to this restaurant, fish tavern, good anyway but very unpleasant people, waiters and owner all together. They don't like to have lonely people, but they know it's illegal to refuse them, especially when the restaurant is half full, so they found a trick they charge 35 € whatever you order ( minimum charge if you order for less of course). It's discriminatory with lonely people, new greek hospitality I suppose ! It's not a very high class restaurant, prices (first class fish 50€/kg, 2d class 35€) are the same than in any regular fish tavern and service is not better, nothing really fancy it's only more pretentious, they call this "gourmet cuisine"... they take off the little bones on the side of the fish but they don't do filets in front of you as they do in starred restaurants. anyway I ate there, I had a fish red sea bream and fava with some smoked fish (just 3 very tiny pieces, and the only originality with the ordinary fava) they I ask for the bill it was 28€ I paid and I had no comments even if they were not particulary friendly. So I returned few days later, there were few available tables but immediately before I sit down the waitress told me, very agressive, that if I order for less than 35 € this time I will be charge for 35 anyway because that's "the politic of the house" and I was told of it... I left of course and I went back to the fish tavern " The captain" in Pali (next village) a bit far but fortunately I had a car, and I spent there like the 3 other days 29€ for the same kind of fish but people really friendly and in a good mood. So I think this kind of politic like they say is not only absolutely unacceptable, disgusting, very shocking and discriminatory but really stupid in just a business point of view : I was 4 days on the island and every day I spent between 28€ and 29€... Anyway I'm not sure this kind of practice is very legal especially if Greece is part of the EU where discriminatory practices of any kind, racial, gender, age, overweight etc, and now lonely people. That's too much! I talked about that to many people on the island, locals mostly, and everybody found it shocking and bad for the island, one told me they may be not be there next year... The problem is that the other fish tavern in Mandraki does...
Read moreStumbled across Γευsea by chance and what a find! Right on the sea front, we were blown away by the amazing food, wine and service. The dishes were beautifully presented and an absolute taste sensation! Antonis, the chef, has a real understanding of the seafood he is working with, after growing up working with his father, the only professional fisherman on the island and has a gift for bringing out the best in his ingredients, having trained in Athens and worked in a Michelin star restaurant. All the fish were so fresh, caught by his father, and the food was exquisite! So good infact, we went back the following night, something we very rarely do! Had squid, red sea bream and greek salad the first night and golden fish, orzo with prawn and grilled squid the second. Antonis said that he likes to allow the flavour of the fish to speak for itself without over complicating things, saying it just needs three things; olive oil, salt and love. How right he was! Cannot put into words how incredible everything tasted! Everyone was so helpful and welcoming. Nothing was too much trouble and they dealt with my food allergies with great care and attention. Cannot recommend this restaurant highly enough! Worth visiting Nisyros just to dine there! A real joy in...
Read moreWe found this delightful restaurant by chance. We had asked a local guy who provided transport for us, to suggest the best fish restaurant near the port, and he suggested Geusea to us.
We had relied solely on his recommendation, and had not checked the reviews of it on TA or Google, like we always do, before deciding on a restaurant. The set-up of the dining area is like all other typical tavernas on the Greek island, and the service was fast and efficient. We went in the kitchen to pick the fresh fish that we wanted, and ordered a few more small dishes to go with it.
When the food was served, we were surprised with the elegant gourmet-style presentation of all the dishes. We had Fish Soup, Greek Salad, Octopus and Fish - and they were all superbly delicious! The price was very reasonable for the quality of the food, and we will have no hesitation in recommending this amazing find to others visiting the island.
Classy, Elegant and Tasty is how I would describe the food, though one wouldn't think the first 2 descriptions will be used...
