I visited in Sept as i was doing a tour of Nisyros.
The tour guide i was with recommended that this was a great place to eat and she was not lying!
Quite a large space with both inside and outside seating. As a solo traveller i sat inside by the window and had a beautiful view of the roof tops and the sea. My server a young woman (who's name escapes me), was so friendly and welcoming. There was a lot of great options on the menu and i wasn't sure what to try so i had a glass of homemade lemonade and a drink called Soumada. The Soumada was DELICIOUS! It's a bitter almond drink that has been sweetened but served with ice, so unbelievably refreshing!
I then had the Zuccini flowers dish, which was beautifully balanced as the honey cut through the saltiness of the cheese, the pastry/puff it was encased in was nice and light. It was so tasty. I'm not a big meat eater and asked the server what she would recommend. Her fave dish was the Seafood spaghetti and i can understand why. Packed full of flavour, it had a plethora of seafood that had been cooked in what i think was a caper, dill and garlic butter. Oh my word what a treat. The portion sizes here are massive, so i did get it to take away to nibble on later!
I had no room for dessert but had to scoff down another Soumada before i waddles back to the boat with an exceptionally full belly and a grateful heart.
Brilliant service, wonderful food, great atmosphere and even had the company of some cute cats. One of my best day trips!
I had to waddle back to the boat as i was so stuffed. I would come back to Greece just to...
Read moreThis review is about Mandraki, not only about Vegos restaurant.
Mandraki is a very picturesque village close to the harbour of Nisyros. It has very nice restaurants, very interesting ice-creams like tomato ice-cream and also a traditional non-alcoholic drink called soumada that you can buy from the local shops there.
The ferry from Kos, Kardameina, takes about an hour to Mandraki port.
I was in a tour group visiting Nisyros and the guide recommended this restaurant called Vegos. The food pics are from that restaurant.
The service in Vegos was fast and on point and the food really good. Very nice and clean toilets as well.
The drinks picture is from another place, very relaxed, modern type of bar.
The other pics are from the street and shoreline...
Read moreVisited today which was the first day tours were organised to the island. Recommended by the tour guide it was in a nice courtyard which was well shaded. I started taking photos and was approached by a family member who gave me a brief tour showing me the items on the wall and giving me a brief history on them she was very proud of a item on the wall made by her great great grandmother. Being keen on family history myself it was interesting story. Now for the food excellent mixed grill particularly liked the sausage filled with cheese it was particularly good. Service was quick and friendly. The almond drink is a must try really refreshing and highly recommended. Price was...
