Since the experience was extremely memorable, I have no idea how to make this review short, so here goes my longest one yet:
It’s easy to miss this pearl of the Corfiot tavernas as you drive on the “superbly” maintained Corfu roads (with 40 to 60 km per hour). There is no great sign telling you that you are about to pass something extraordinary. You just see something that is attractively blue, and by the time you realise it’s a taverna, you’ve past it.
The fact that it always had parked cars in the “parking” place, and that it always had someone on the terrace should have been a dead giveaway. However, our group passed by it at least 10 times in the first days of our vacation before visiting it.
It’s also far enough from the beach to not consider it a viable location for walking for lunch, so in the first days we tried to get to the locations closer to us. Only after, did we decide to visit Mythos, and then we were hooked: we went almost daily, sometimes even twice a day.
The owners are very nice and supper friendly, the food is extremely tasty (with some from our group saying that the Pork in Winesauce reminded them of childhood and how their grandma used to cook) and out of more than ten times that we went there, it happen only once that someone didn’t like their food (it was the grilled octopus and it was a matter of opinions as for the rest from the group it tasted fine).
We always started with some of the great starters, before proceeding to the excellent tasting main dishes. There were 18 on the menu when we visited, and our favorites were: • Saganaki with Honey & Sesame, an excellent starter that left us wondering why it is not in the desert section • Eggplant Salad, different from what we knew, but tasty non the less • The Village Sausage, tasted like it was home made by the grandparents
Then there were the main dishes, with our favorites: • Pork in Winesauce, extremely well cooked • Fresh Squid, maybe the most tender I have ever tasted • Beefburger Mythos, with the meat having the most interesting taste • Prawns grilled, for each the picture will say more than 1000 words
For us, a special high light was the Orangecake (Portokalopita), an incredible desert that seems to combine perfectly with any time of day: • In the hot noon Sun, it tasted so refreshing • In the cooler evening Sun, it tasted like energy as it seemed to invigorate you • In the Moon light, it tasted romantic, with its citric flavours accompanied by the sweetness of the honey
Thinking back, as a group, we experimented with about 90% of the dishes on the menu and we were never disappointed.
To understand the mindset of the owners and why the entire experience was a superb one, we one-time ordered the Lobster, but we were refused. When we asked why, we were told that, knowing how much this would cost us, they would not serve something frozen. If we wanted lobster, we should order it 1 or 2 days in advance so it would be fresh.
In my view, the owners are doing a great job both at making you feel welcome and how everything tasted. Big thanks and them and looking forward to next time I...
Read moreWhen we came, the places reeked of piss and smokes, plenty of mosquitos, no conditioning, we had to welcome ourselves in as no one greeted us or sat us down, the owner had a bad attitude and don’t let us sit at a nice table, we had to wait around two minutes for him to put 5 chairs and 2 tables down then set everything up all alone even though we offered him our help. THE FOOD PART: Local Vine(NASTY), you could feel alcohol(spirit) taste, for the wine they gave us small 80ml glass cups. FOOD WAS AWFULL!!!!!! SUPER SALTY AND ROTTEN CHICKEN, BEEF BURGERS TASTED LIKE NASTY GOAT MEAT AND HAD THE STRUCTURE OF COTTELETES(BURNT TO CRISP) SPECIAL ON THE MENU OCTOPUS WAS GUMMY, CHEWWY AND BURNT!!!! in total we spent 80€ left the food and drinks untouched and just left, the funny part was the owner acting clueless as to why we left the food untouched, we told him of the awful taste, he shrugged it off, in total, never eat here its nasty, might get food poisoning and...
Read moreA rustic tavern house. The couple running it are friendly and attentive. Decor is fresh/new old Greek. It is next to the road with lots of locals popping in and out being friends with the owners. So a little traffic noise - which to us is normal from London. They have pretty birds in cages hanging up - breeding pairs which chirp and music in the back ground. We have been twice to visit. It was convenient for us to pop in and recommended for its food by our host.
Food is homemade and a scrummy 😋. We tried the village sausage for a starter a must to try. The oven feta also very nice. I had the lamb chops from the grill - well cooked and crisp. My partner had the musaka which he enjoyed. There is nothing I would change. it was all prepped well and fresh.
Price wise it is reasonable €28-42 with 1 Liter of red wine each time for 2 people. The portion sizes are large. We...
