We read a few other reviews about Taverna Avra, some of which were negative, and so were a little nervous about going there for our 18th wedding anniversary. The place couldn’t have been more perfect: music not too loud, the sun setting through the clouds across the beautiful bay, and a front row seat to the majesty that is Corfu. And the food was amazing! We had three appetizers to try a variety and both also ordered main dishes to follow. Everything was so delicious and perfectly timed. Including the complimentary dessert. As Samin Nosrat would say “so good!” Prices seemed very reasonable. I think our total bill came to 30euros. The only little hiccup came right after sundown when some mosquitoes came to visit but that was quickly remedied by the helpful staff and we were able to finish our meal in a leisurely fashion. We ended the evening with a stroll down the beach (which was less than a stones throw from our table. All in all a perfect evening and best anniversary meal...
Read moreWe wanted to have dinner at this tavern, 4 families (8 adults and 7 children). After a table was prepared for the children, behind the terrace, even if only 4-5 tables were occupied and the rest were free. The discussions with the owner began when we wanted to bring 3 tables together, for adults, he started telling us visibly irritated that does not accept payment by card, only cash, and that the preparation of the food takes more than an hour. We accepted the conditions and ask him to put the tables together, then he said bluntly that if we want to put the tables together we should do it ourselves!!! Of course we left the tavern and had dinner at a nearby tavern where everything was fine.
Very nice location. Unfriendly and...
Read moreThe food was very well prepared and everything, including the shrimps and the mussels very fresh. Now to the services: I do not remember any worse and mutely hostile service than this. The waiter/barman/possibly owner seemed very bothered that we sat at a table and in general he emanated hatred and spitefullness. I was derermined to stay and eat, considering all previous reviews, but from a point of view of human interaction it has been really bitter. Even the money were taken with laziness and disinterest, it really is a pitty for the cook and the food and an utterly bad and ugly example of Greek (un)hospitality. Good food but...
