Another of the harbour quartet. It offers fish specialism. It is fun (and respectful to look at the fish in the chiller to help decide). Although on one of our visits we were persuaded to have a huge barracuda which would have filled four people up and was a bit overcooked. Mostly the food was great, though (and half the price of Vassilis its neighbour).
From 3 years ago: Paxos has five outstanding tavernas. Kohili holds its own with the best of them. Tonight was a second go and the standard was impressive. The bread and sun dried tomato dip was properly rustic. The green salad with grapes and (probably not local) avocado was a perfect contrast to everything else. The gazpacho was delicate and refreshing. And the carpaccio was simply divine - perfect amount of citrus set off with red peppercorns. Tonight we Tried the risotto with shrimp. I loved it that it arrived slightly al dente but finished cooking as it sat. A delicate flavoring of lemon zest and mint set it off. Decent house rose and very good service (and v good value) made it hard to fault. We will be back...
Read moreWe started with mussels as a starter—decent enough. Then came the seafood risotto, which also had mussels. One tasted off and I had to spit it out. A bit later, another one looked and smelled wrong. That’s when I stopped eating.
I told the waitress, but she didn’t smell it—just took the plate and sent out the owner, who showed us a tray of mussels and insisted they were fresh. No apology, no acknowledgment that something might’ve gone wrong. Just defensiveness.
The reason I didn’t want to pay for that dish was simple: they never apologized or took responsibility. Instead, the waitress accused us of just trying to get a free meal and claimed I had eaten everything, which wasn’t true. I finished the starter, but obviously didn’t touch the main after the second disgusting mussel.
They were loud, rude, and more concerned with saving face than doing right by a customer....
Read moreWent for the good reviews, had to leave a bad one. We went there last week (low season already) super calm Thursday dinner and we asked moussaka and stifado. And oh boy we surely regretted. Both felt like frozen. The meat in the stifado was dry and the the sauce not tasty or consistent. We payed 55 euros for these two mains, tzatziki with bread as starter and 3 beverages. For me this was a sunset robbery at the harbour considering the quality of the main plates we were served. I do think our mistake was asking those dishes in a fish restaurant, and that’s the reason for not giving one star. If you want to eat good meat and not spent +50 for no reason, drive to Lanka. There are better offers there. If you want to go for the fish, check...
