Kavos, Katakolo — Restaurant in Municipality of Pyrgos

Kavos taverna is a hidden gem. Located in the old port of Katakolo, the restaurant offers a wide variety of typical greek dishes. It is not at all a tourist trap, as the dishes are very tasty and believe me, big (which is very Greek ;) ). We took the baked potatoes and tirokafteri (hot, spicy and creamy cheese with peppers and tomato mixed in it) for starters and gavri (gavros is a small fish similar to sardines) and pastitio (a typical Greek lasagna/macaroni-like pasta dish). We had the most excellent of times at Kavos Restsurant in Katakolo!! From the fresh bread to the Shrimp Saganaki and all the tzatziki in between! AMAZING!!! We came with friends that had visited before! The owner welcomed us like family and what an experience!!! The town was bustling on a Sunday afternoon with three ships in port, but we did NOT have a care in the world!! The Greek Salad, Zucchini balls, the feta cheese, were all as fresh and tasty as your mind can imagine! This is NOT typically what Americans get back in the states. We stopped by here because it was close to our cruise port, and it definitely exceeded our expectations! I ordered the chicken gyro — it was absolutely delicious. We also tried the zucchini balls as an appetizer, and they were really good too. The service was impressively fast — we waited less than 10 minutes for the appetizers to come out.
