La Playa Taverna Beach Bar — Restaurant in Municipality of Rethymnon

opening...june.. but the place is magnificent for a walk on the sandy beach or just a near the sea moment.. you can feel very positive energy here..relax and enjoy..9nly two things to mention: under covid19 pressure you have ALWAYS in every change of persons to the sunbeds to sterilise them. but you don't... and this is something every costumer can see. second detail has to do with safety. previous years there was a lifeguard tower. but this one here is abandoned..of course this is not your responsibility. but there's a lack of safety because tourists never know if they can swim or not because there are no colour flags to warn them anymore. someone and somehow has to do this. on the other hand every time waves are huge and extremely dangerous someone from la playa is running to warn people... and thanks for that. but a visible sign would be...

As soon as we sat down we were offered the daily fish of the day whether we wanted it or not and not offered the menu. After asking for the menu the waiter lost interest and then after we ordered our lunch we had to remind him 4 times that he had forgotten our drinks. He apologised everytime but they were still not forthcoming! The drinks eventually appeared after the meal was eaten and even then I had to go to the bar an ask for a glass! This is normally a lovely place to relax but was spoilt by the poor service in the restaurant. Three of us had a lovely lunchtime meal consisting of huge Prawns with salad and rice, Shrimp Saganaki and chicken fillet with rice and chips. The Prawns were cooked to perfection, the shrimp Saganaki was filled with small shelled shrimps and four larger ones that were still in their shells, in a beautiful sauce and the chicken fillet was huge. All the meals were well cooked and presented and the setting of the taverna is so relaxing being right on the beach, with free sunbeds if wanted. We will definitely return for another meal and would recommend this...
