When it comes to traditional Greek cuisine, Savvas Taverna in Rhodes truly captures the essence of the island's culinary heritage. A delightful family-run establishment, this place is deeply imbued with the genuine warmth of the Greek hospitality. Tucked away in a quaint corner of the lively Old Town, it is a perfect setting for a memorable dining experience.
Stepping into Savvas Taverna is like entering a vibrant Greek home, complete with rustic wooden furniture, bougainvillea-draped terraces, and the captivating aromas of authentic Greek food wafting through the air. One cannot help but be impressed by the cozy, familial atmosphere, which the proprietors cultivate with their welcoming demeanor and personalized attention.
The menu at Savvas Taverna is an ode to the traditional Greek culinary palette. An absolute must-try is their moussaka, an artful harmony of flavors layered between succulent eggplant slices and creamy béchamel sauce. The gyros are a delight to savor, featuring perfectly spiced, juicy meat paired with soft, homemade pita bread and cool tzatziki. The dolmades are a standout as well, delicately wrapped vine leaves filled with aromatic rice that dance on your taste buds.
The vegetarian dishes are a testament to the restaurant's inclusive approach to food. A Greek salad so fresh, it's like tasting summer on a plate, and the gemista (stuffed bell peppers and tomatoes) are flavorful, fulfilling, and delicious in their simplicity.
One can't help but commend Savvas Taverna's selection of local Greek wines, thoughtfully chosen to complement the dishes, enhancing the flavors with every sip.
Savvas Taverna isn't just a place to dine; it's an experience. It allows you to step into the heart of Greek culture and come out with cherished memories and a satiated palate. It is, without a doubt, a culinary gem that should not be missed when...
Read moreThis is hands down the BEST place to eat on the entire island of Rhodes! 🌟 I drove all the way from Lindos just to try it, and it was worth every single minute of the drive – honestly, I would have driven even further if I had to.
It’s a family-run restaurant where even the locals come to eat, which says it all. The food is simply outstanding – authentic, homemade, full of flavor, and prepared with so much love. Every dish feels like a piece of Greek tradition brought to life.
The owner and his family are some of the kindest, most genuine people you could ever meet. Their hospitality makes you feel less like a guest and more like a member of the family.
If you’re visiting Rhodes, you absolutely CANNOT leave without eating here.

Read moreSavvas is absolutely my favourite place to eat on Rhodes Island. Its not a fancy place but the genuine welcome you get is second to non. It's a true family run restaurant serving real Greek food lots of which is cooked on charcoal. This is a place where locals eat and is open all year which says it all. The food is excellent with ample portions and extremely reasonably priced as are the drinks. I visited a couple of weeks ago in a party of four, we all had mezes starters followed by four mains, 3 litre carafes of wine and four very generous ouzos (please don't judge) and the total bill was 87 euros. Over the years no matter where I stay on Rhodes I always make sure I visit at least once. Thanks Savvas and Vasilis. See...
