A place to go if you want to meet one of the rudest owners in the world. We finally did not visit the museum because of the utmost disrespect from the man who was there and insulted us fortunately before we paid. We were there with a person with walking disabilities, after the end of the season and we were literally the only visitors. When we arrived and parked in the shadow, the owner came and made us re park the car in the sun because he didn’t like the way we parked- there was no one there and the whole parking was empty . Okay we said, a bit weird but his place. Our aunt couldn’t visit because of leg problems so we asked him if he could give us a mini tour so she doesn’t have to wait ages in the sun in the car parking where he made us park… and then the hell broke loose- he literally told us that if we don’t care about the museum we shouldn’t come , using very agressive language and gesture , as if we came there with knives. I said that we re sorry but we cannot leave the person for such a long period in the car - the museum is tiny and he said it would take at least an hour or hour and a half. Then he again became very angry saying- you don’t care- you don’t come here, you have no respect for Greek history, you , you , you. We told him that if he behaved like this we didn’t really care for being insulted any more. I have never ever ever seen a person like this. It was a very traumatic experience for us, especially for our child who had to witness this attack. I was shaking when we left. Please don’t support this disrespectful...
Read moreMy partner and I visited the Folklore Museum when we stayed nearby in Lardos. We were welcomed in with friendly handshakes but sadly it went down hill from there. The entry price of 7 euros is a bit pricey for a small one room museum but we’re happy to support small businesses. We however agree with the other low reviews, the owner is rude, aggressive and condensending.
He gives you a condensed history of the island whilst showing you things on display. My partner tried to share stories of his Grandfather in the war but was ignored and dismissed. When he tried to clarify something he was told off for ‘not listening’. I awkwardly laughed off the comments that young women should get back to embroidering and stop worrying about their nails and using botox to ‘look like monkeys’. I wish now I’d have said something but I just wanted to leave honestly. You then get time to look around by yourself, except when he suddenly decides he wants to tell you something else and you are shouted over and made to listen.
We’re only giving it 2 stars because we did reference some of the things we were able to learn when exploring of the rest of the island. We can understand the passion he has for his island, culture and the people but we would have learnt so much more if it was approached differently. It just wasn’t an enjoyable experience...
Read moreNever been treated with this much disrespect after giving someone money. We were invited in while walking past, the owner (I assume) told us that it is 10€ and includes a tour which he can do in German. Once we paid, he expected us to join an english couple and listen to his very rushed english tour - which we were unable to follow. He started without our full party being present even. We asked if we could wait outside and he could do our German tour later - he got annoyed and raised his voice, told us to just walk around on our own.
After a while he decided to in fact tell us a few (!) things in German - when we asked questions he was snappy and rude, and answered by asking us questions in return.
He kept telling us that we should "learn more" and if his 5 Minute tour wasn't enough for us "uneducated" we should buy his book. (We didn't)
Truly one terrible experience, I couldn't believe it as we were used to people on this island being kind and welcoming.
Absolute shame, cause the idea behind this place is great. The museum is one room - it has a lot of things but not much explanation unless you get a detailed...
