I had eaten here many years ago and had not left a review before .
Food has not changed and is still incredibly delicious as I remembered it last time .
Older gentleman greeted me kindly and let me choose whatever table I wanted to sit at , and then brought me a pitcher of ice water , menu and a bread basket with some olives and a spread to start .
House wine included red and white for incredible low 5 euros for 500ml . Do try it as it is very refreshing and goes well with dinner .
Menu is traditional Crete style with plenty of appetizers to choose from . I went very classic and chose the Crete dakos salad with grated tomatoes over rusks and cheese on top . So simple yet so flavorful.
For a main I asked for the lamb chops that are just amazing . Seasoned perfectly and cooked so well retaining the juiciness in every bite . Served with hand cut potatoes and a dash of yogurt .
Was brought some raki and a desert on the house which was a great ending to a perfect evening.
Parking is plentiful and very easy to get on and out .
Thank you again for yet another...
Read moreFor six days we had rented the Spiros villa which is situated further up the road near Taverna Vatalos . There we had dinner three nights. Each time we went we tried different dishes. The staff ( owners ? ) was very welcoming and we were very well treated.
The starters we had are the following: mountain green pie (twice) , Vlita , Mizithra, graviera saganaki , the main: lamb in cheese sauce, rabbit stew, mixed grill , octopus and calamari.
The octopus were one of the best I ever had !!! The wine which went with our food was local housewine red and white, both were very delicious. Each time we got from the house a different homemade cake with a very tasty raki , we really felt at home , not treated like in other places where they make you feel just like another tourist. Efcharisto parapoli for the nice time we spent in Vatalos. ( to be...

Service was ok on our first visit during the day, but quite slow on our second visit (dinner time, and the restaurant was full, so that is understandable). Staff is polite. The main dishes were not as nice as the appetisers. The meat on the mixed grill was a bit charred and the selection of cuts didn't include any beef and only a small piece of chicken. Note that some dishes are pre-made and heated up when ordered, which I learned is common around here. Beer was served on a frozen mug, so extra points there. Mini dessert and raki served on the house at the end of the meal. I would go back but only for...
