Outstanding Taverna Experience at Tzitzikas - A Must-Visit in Porto Koufo
During our 4-night stay in Porto Koufo, Tzitzikas Taverna became our go-to dining destination - we ate here 3 times, which speaks volumes about the quality and experience they provide. Exceptional Service from Day One What impressed us most was the hospitality. Despite not having reservations for our first two visits, the gentleman at the front was incredibly accommodating and managed to secure us a table both times. This level of service set the tone for our entire experience. Given how popular this place clearly is, I’d strongly recommend making reservations in advance. Food Quality That Stands Out Having dined at various restaurants throughout our trip, including several in Thessaloniki, Tzitzikas truly distinguished itself with exceptionally fresh, well-crafted dishes. Cold Appetizers - A Perfect Start The cold appetizer selection was outstanding. Their tzatziki was arguably the best we’ve had, alongside perfectly prepared tarama and fava that showcased traditional Greek flavors at their finest. Each dish felt carefully crafted and incredibly fresh. Standout Dishes The grilled octopus was absolutely the best dish we tried - tender, perfectly charred, and expertly prepared. The mixed fried vegetables were another highlight, particularly the way they fried the peppers which added such wonderful flavor to the mix. The zucchini was equally tasty and well-executed. Fresh Seafood Excellence Being a coastal taverna, their seafood truly shines. We sampled various local fish including mousmosi (a local specialty), red mullet, sardines, and anchovies - all were excellent and clearly fresh from local waters. The fried calamari was outstanding; you could immediately tell how fresh it was from the texture and taste. Perfect Location and Atmosphere The taverna’s waterfront location in Porto Koufo’s natural harbor provides a stunning backdrop for dining. [Add details about the ambiance, views, atmosphere during your visits] Why We Kept Coming Back The combination of top-notch food quality and exceptional service made Tzitzikas irresistible. Everything was executed to perfection - from the freshness of ingredients to the careful preparation of each dish. We felt incredibly lucky to discover such an outstanding taverna in this beautiful village. It’s rare to find a restaurant that consistently delivers excellence across every aspect of the dining experience. Recommendation If you’re visiting Porto Koufo, Tzitzikas Taverna should be at the top of your dining list. The quality of both food and service is simply exceptional - I cannot recommend it enough! This family-run establishment represents the very best of Greek taverna dining. Pro tip: Make reservations in advance, especially during peak season. The popularity is well-deserved, and you don’t want to miss out on this exceptional...
Read moreWe drove almost an hour one way to eat dinner here, and oh were we happy we did! I read the great reviews online and wanted to test it out myself. The staff are like a well oiled machine - everything is done precise, professional, and friendly.
This is exactly the restaurant for you if you prefer higher quality food.
We had a lovely table by the sea, enjoyed sardines with sundried tomatoes, potatoes with butter and garlic. And for the main course we had the fried squid, and the catch of the day. The squid was grilled to perfection - some can be rubbery.. this one was NOT. Kudos to the chef.
The fish was also prepared to perfection. Perfect on the inside, and with a little crunchy skin.
The desert was on the house and served with a smile. Oh! And thank you to our server “Archie”, who made our whole experience that much better!
If you are close (or not so close like we were, hehe), we definitely recommend you to stop and enjoy a nice meal here. But be sure so make a reservation if you go after 8pm - they might be fully booked...
Read moreWe served food here twice.
On both occasions, the food was amazing, especially the grilled calamari stuffed with feta, and the servers were hospitable and friendly. Prices are also reasonable for the quality of the dishes you get.
However, on weekends, especially at night, the place is more crowded than usual and you may feel forgotten by servers at times. We waited around 15 minutes before someone noticed our calls and took our order. Most of the food and drinks came pretty quick, except for one meal, for which we waited over 40 minutes without knowing that the server actually forgot to submit it while taking our order. He apologized for the mistake and the meal finally came after an additional 3 minutes of waiting.
We may be in the wrong here, but we expected at least a small discount for that specific dish, to compensate the long waiting time, and not the full price.
Other than that, it's a great place if you want to try actual tasty seafood. Hope you are more lucky than...
