We had high hopes for this beach bar, but it definitely did not live up to expectations. On our first visit, we were drawn in by what seemed like fair sun-bed prices for the island: €20 for the 1st and 2nd rows, €10 for the 3rd row, and the rest free. We settled into the 3rd row, only to be told—after we were comfortable—that the price had suddenly increased from €10 to €20. The food and coffee were nothing special—both just average.
Despite this shaky start, we decided to give it another chance the next day, mainly because the shop itself looked nice and the sun-bed prices still seemed relatively reasonable. Big mistake. When we arrived, we were told that the prices had drastically changed overnight: €100 for the 1st row, €50 for the 2nd, €40 for the 3rd, and even the previously free ones were now being charged. Frankly, it’s disgraceful.
We opted to sit in the lounge area instead. Wanting to enjoy the view from one of the comfortable couches, we were instead told by the receptionist/front-of-house lady that we had to sit on bar stools because a “big group” was expected. That group, unsurprisingly, never showed up. We ended up at a basic table.
Trying to make the most of it, we started playing a casual card game, only to be approached by a rude and hostile waiter who told us playing cards was forbidden.
All in all, a terrible experience. Inconsistent pricing, unwelcoming staff, and arbitrary rules made for a frustrating visit. Would not...
Read moreArriving there at 21:20, the music was at over 90 db. Fortunately they turned it down afterwards. One star for the location and the place as such, another one for the polite and efficient service.
It's definitely the nicest beach bar in Syros.
The menu has not changed since last year and the printed menues neither ... they are rather filthy after a year or more on the beach.
Food quality and may be also portions have decreased. What was the best Tagliata in Syros has become an ordinary piece of beef, tonight served without salt.
The Sushi, well this is not really Sushi. It's rather a sort of a mix of fish, rice, mayonnaise, may be Philadelphia and other stuff that is smeared into and over the Maki. You don't get any taste of fish.
Nigiri of farmed salmon or unfrozen tuna at Euros 4.50 or Euros 5.00 PER PIECE (!) is at Nobu's pricing levels, however the quality of the rice, fish and the temperature are way off.
Same for the Sashimi: Euros 18 for 7 pieces: 2 unfrozen tuna, 3 farmed salmon and 2 pieces of what may have been the only fresh local fish (unless it was a farmed sea bass ...).
Nice fruit platter offered at the end of the meal.
Go there to enjoy a great place, a few drinks and loud music. Forget about it for reasonably priced quality food.
By the way they changed a lot of the staff, from the sushi masters to the service and I suspect also in the kitchen and F&B management.
They kept the very nice dog though and the...
Read moreThe place itself is quite nice in terms of position on the beach, decor etc. We went twice - one in the week, which was a pleasant experience with decent enough (although overpriced) food, if very very slow service. The view is lovely.
HOWEVER. We returned on a Friday and after lunch at Ono took sunbeds further down (at De La Gracia) the beach because Ono’s parasols have holes and so provide really ineffective shade. Also, Ono plays music and we were looking to chill.
From 2pm, the loud, Ibiza-style clubbing type music began. Despite being at a different restaurant’s beach, the music was inescapable. Even at the far end of the beach, hundreds of metres from Ono, the endless thumping was ear-splittingly loud. Completely ruined our beach day, and that of probably everyone else at the other restaurants and on the public beach. We came to chill, to hear the sea. If I wanted to be surrounded by instagrammers parading around in all manner of bad taste, I’d go to Mykonos. It’s really not fair to play music so loud that the entire beach has to hear it. You literally can’t escape it. We are astounded by the inconsideration for… well, everyone.
It’s a real shame because the beach itself is gorgeous, with shallow perfect waters and golden sand. Unfortunately it becomes a festival of vulgarity on the weekend. unless you really love the ‘pretending to be a reality TV star’ vibe, I’d suggest giving a very,...
