We came here on the recommendation from another couple in the hotel, and keen to try somewhere else away from the village (and a stone throw away from our hotel).
We didn't make a booking, but they were able to accommodate us at short notice (it was around 8pm on a Sunday). The restaurant floor has a moderate decor, but boasts a rather incredible view. Generous windows surround the restaurant, so you can see the sunset from almost anywhere in the restaurant.
The service took a bit of time to warm up, as I think we were seated for about 10-15 minutes before we were able to order drinks. Also, our two menus were not the same, missing some drinks and food options, something to be just aware of. Once we got ordered, the evening was pretty perfect.
We had a tomato croquettes starter (a new favourite of ours), the king prawns main and a long-shot with the cuttlefish ink risotto. The prawns were average. You got 5 of them, on a bed of salad and nothing else. Fortunately we ordered a side of fries (which were yummy), which padded out the meal. The risotto was absolutely delicious. It won't win any awards for how it looks, but it tickled the taste buds fantastically.
We did end the evening with a traditional Greek dessert, which was good with some oozo. Overall I would have scored the place a 4.5, a few details to brush up on but overall we had a great evening with some nice atmosphere and some good food. The price was reasonable at 110€, which included a bottle of wine and additional Aperol Spritz. Would...
Read moreWhen we first went to Aeolos we were picked up at our hotel by George who was very friendly. We were very impressed by the food which was so fresh and tasty. The view of the caldera and the sunsets was amazing and the prices were so reasonable. We kept trying other places on the island, even highly rated and quite expensive restaurants, but they couldn't hold a candle to Aeolos so we kept coming back. We even went one night after a disappointing meal in a highly rated place on the beach which was obviously living off it's location. We were greeted like friends every time we arrived by Eleni, Giannis and George. They even made great suggestions for menu favourites and were never wrong. I can't emphasize enough how great the food was. The fish was always just caught and the salads fresh and bursting from the garden. The Sangria (which I usually don't drink) was so good I had it over and over. My wife's favourite dishes were the Fried Calamari, tomato balls and meatballs. Mine were the Lamb ribs which were expertly spiced and tasted like they were cooked on an open fire. The grilled Beef Steak and catch of the day was also magnificent.
I only wish this restaurant was in our area as we would certainly be regulars. If we ever return to Santorini it will be the first place we dine.
Thank you to all the staff for making the food on our amazing vacation so memorable. You have inspired our cooking at home...
Read moreThe best family owned Greek restaurant in Santorini! We came across this place while staying in Maison De Lys, and saw how beautiful the views were, so we had to try it out. The kindness of the staff from this place is just superior. When we walked in we felt the Greek vibes and were quickly greeted. The prices of this place compared to other restaurants is very good. A single person can spend usually 20 to 25 euros on a good and traditional plate of food. They have lots of good options on the menu. We went with the Fried Tomatoes, Mushrooms with Garlic/Cheese, and the Fried Cheese. Everything from the starters was delicious and well made. You can tell they took time to make it and that everything was homemade. My personal favorite was the “Drunken Chicken” it was spectacular. The creaminess of the sauce and the taste of it with the chicken and fries is top notch. I’ve never had something close to this in the US or in Greece. The dessert was also delicious, we had the traditional “Accident” from Greece. It is like a sweet sandwich with ice cream in the middle and a cake on each side. To sum this up, the restaurant was so good that we had to stop ANOTHER time. The service and food was just as good the same time. Thank you staff from “Aeolos Taverna” for you attentive and...
