Can't rate this place highly enough. I've eaten a lot of greek food over the years and while all the places we tried on Tinos were of a pretty high standard, Malamatenia really stood out. Once we'd discovered it, we tried a substantial amount of the menu between us and didn't have a single dish we wouldn't emphatically recommend. The Tinian were the best we tried and the more familiar greek classics were flawless. The cancellation of our return ferry was actually quite welcome once we'd found an alternative that allowed us one last meal... Moreover, I read a lot of reviews in preparation for the trip and while I trust the Greeks implicitly when it comes to eating out in Greece, they don't see the service from a foreigner's point of view. Not everywhere is as welcoming as the reviews suggest if you're not fluent in Greek, but these guys couldn't have done more for us. They help those who want to learn more Greek and flitted between languages effortlessly to accommodate all of their guests, without leaving you with the feeling that they were prioritising the locals. Finally, the prices in the chora are more consistent than TripAdvisor suggests, but Malamatenia comes in slightly cheaper than most. Which is handy when you just want to order it all. Not...
Read moreFrom reading, looking at reviews pictures I thought they must have good seafood dishes. The first two times I came, I happened to want to eat no meat, so I went with Fava bean, Eggplant baked (Imam) which are so good until last night on the island I told myself I have to have the best that they offer, I ordered grilled shrimp and Zucchini ball. The shrimp were over cooked, I love zucchini balls which I had ordered them in many restaurants before but here..what should I say..I kept thinking, these could not be zucchini ball, I asked the (used to be) very nice and sweet staff two times with different people if these are zucchini balls. Anyway, I didn't like it, I didn't eat after I had the first bite and the staff didn't care, didn't even ask how was it, didn't try to explain. I understand I have to pay for it even though I don't like it but common, I ate here three times. Explain or act like you care...
Read moreWife and i went there via coinflip decision. Little did we know it would be our best meal of our vacation. We were welcomed in this coz little Restaurant. We chose to dine inside because it was a little windy. We loved the ambiente immediatly, with all the old pictures and classy music playing in the background. To our surprise one of the waiters even spoke german. Wife got herself the Kleftiko, i chose the lamb chops, just a little bread as a starter. The meat was a gift from heaven. Juicy, rich in flavour and tender. It was the best lamb Ive ever tasted, both the chops and from the Kleftiko. And even the potatoes were so good i can barely describe it. We were brought a small serving of baklava rolls as a dessert which made the perfect ending to this visit. We where happy luck sent us to the Malamatenia and we can wholeheartedly...
