If I could give this restaurant 3.5 / 5 I would. I feel conflicted about our experience here as all the elements are in place for this to be a truly superior experience but it just didn’t live up to expectations.
The service is excellent but also a little too formal at times, and not in keeping with the more laid back decor and atmosphere. It’s clear this restaurant is trying to be a cut above the others, but the attentiveness of the service was very inconsistent. Some items were cleared away promptly but we were then left sitting in front of dirty plates at the end.
The food is very, very good but not necessarily any better than far cheaper tavernas elsewhere in the town and on the island. Portion sizes are small and the prices are the highest we paid in Tinos. The atmosphere also felt a little off, not particularly friendly and not a great vibe. The staff provided excellent service but it was a little formal, which detracts from what should be a perfect atmosphere.
Definitely give this a try for a very different menu, but if you only have a small number of nights on Tinos, there are better all round options...
Read moreThe food was good. Let's start with that. We had proper Cycladic cuisine with local ingredients mixed in dishes that most were really good. There were misses as well. The lakerda was underwhelming at best. The homemade bread was alright but won't be writing home about it. At this point I do need to add that several of the options that wowed us were recommendations from our waiter.
What was significantly below average was the service. There were several moments throughout the night that I felt that the restauranteurs and waiters didn't want us to be there. It was as if we were taking up space. Not sure why cause the bill came to 120 for two so can't say that the order was below average. We had to ask for things several times. For another bottle of water. For another glass of wine. For the bill. These are all items where we felt the struggle to get them.
The location is basically a garden...
Read moreVery cozy restaurant. Had a little trouble finding it since we cannot read greek and the entrance is easily overlooked. But once inside it is a real treat. Me and my wife had a Spinache tarte as an appetizer, followed by the most tender and tasteful squid with split pea spread. We shared all the dishes since we we're a little traumatized by greece's generous sized servings. It was the right amount for us both. For dessert we tried the kalmaki ice cream which unlocked a whole new flavour for us. It was amazing. And my personal favourite where the little pieces of bread they served us. The services waa super friendly and helpful with our questions and requests and also gave us some extra info about some of the dishes and drinks. Overall a very pleasant evening we had at Mikro Karavi. An experience we can definitel recommend. Thank you to all the staff of...
