THALASSA / The sea RESTAURANT — Restaurant in Municipality of Western Lesvos

As I mentioned in my reviews previously, dining close to the beach and the sea is a wonderful experience in itself, and it's available in many restaurants around Lesvos. However, some of them simply stand out by their specific atmosphere, accompanied by excellent food and knowledgeable, experienced and friendly staff.

Thalassa is one of those places. The moment we appeared, the staff rearranged the tables to accommodate for our large group. They explained all items on the menu we asked about, and recommend the house special - squid stuffed with rice, a local delicacy, which turned out to be great! I also had a seabas, which was perfect.

At the end they gave us two plates of sweet and juicy watermelon, that rounded up the whole experience.

Food was lovely, however the service was poor as they brought our mains whilst still eating our starter. The waitress brought the food and passed us the plate as there was no room on the small table on the beach. She left us holding the plates and walked off ... rude and unprofessional. Definitely not eat here again as there are plenty more exceptional restaurants that check and clear your plates before serving next courses. Also left waiting ages after finishing our meal, with no offer of drinks or dessert and a table full of dirty dishes. Service let this place...

We stayed in Petra for two weeks and tried 5 different restaurants before we stumbled upon this one. We didn't go to another one for the rest of the time. The serving staff takes good care of you with a nice smile even though it can be busy. The food has that homey feel to it but with the taste of high end restaurant food. We tried many different dishes and all of them were absolutely delicious. For the best traditional food in Petra I would recommend this place!
