Akamatra — Restaurant in Municipality of Western Samos

A nice friendly restaurant in town, a bit walk from the hotel but worth it. Local Greek food and they got their own recipes as well. We tried the beetroot salad with garlic sauce and if you love both it is a must try (I just love the intense garlic flavor that makes people stay away 🤭) . The second dish we tried was the rooster and it was so well cooked the meat came of from the bones when you touch with the fork. They also cut and fry their own potatoes no more frozen factory ones yay. And the view is fantastic either inside or outside. Service was also very nice and friendly. Loved to talk with the folk there. It is near the church at the hill, so you should definitely go there near sunset and just enjoy the amazing view after or before your dinner....

Food was alright, they dont have much beef option in the menu almost everything is pork which is not necessarily good. We ordered beef burger patties aside from salad, fava and kalamari. Overall we really enjoyed the environment though. One thing really bothered us about this restaurant was the service. When we first arrived one of the waiter’s asked me whether I was Palestinian cuz I was wearing a Keffiyeh. I thought her attitude and subsequent reaction was odd. I am not sure whether she was ill intentioned but I felt uncomfortable. She didn’t utter any word of support— which is a shame but if you are asking someone about their background as soon as they arrive at least have a plausible explanation for your question lol. Anyways we did not enjoy...

This place is hidden away up in the old town and you need to be prepared to drive then walk a bit but it is really worth it. The food is traditional and affordable with most mains less than 10 Euros. The owner spoke great English and went out of his way to help explain things to our large family with medium age children. There isn't a large number of tables and by 8.30pm on a Tuesday night it was full. The night was topped off by free ice-cream...or so we thought....as our return walk to the car was interrupted by one of the waiters racing after us on a motorbike to return one of the kids water-bottles! Just a seriously nice...
