3 out of 8 days during our stay in Paros we chose to eat in Blue Oyster. A restaurant in its own class, situated 10 meters from the little sandy beach of Ambelas. I will talk about the food in a bit because I want to talk firstly about the people, Giannis and his 3 girls. Giannis, a high school teacher by day, is the epitome of low key, easy going, most polite, savvy person I have ever known to own a restaurant of this class. His girls, always smiling - never tiring, like little bees serve this “hive” in the most discrete way. What an example of a tight family; Great job Giannis! Now the food. We have tried almost every dish in the menu (our group was 6-10 on each visit) and even though everything is really well thought of, simple, tasty and cooked well there are some dishes that shine brighter! The crab salad, fresh, earthy, slightly spicy, slightly tangy, a hint of sweetness, umami… Lobster linguini. This is a dish that can be found in many seafood restaurants in Greece but this interpretation is probably my favourite one. Seashell platter. Giannis has managed to resource some of the finest shells available in Greece, both cultivated and picked by free divers across the coasts of Greece. Pastichio. If you find it, it’s a dish of the day, order it. Amazing flavours, rich béchamel with Naxian aged Gruyère and perfectly season minced meat! Then there is the wine list which consists of small Greek wineries chosen by Giannis himself to perfectly match his menu, along with some more mainstream labels. The Blue Oyster is one of the few restaurants where all of the waiters are WSPC certified and that’s impressive in its own right. Finally deserts are orange pie and galaktobureko, both made by Giannis’s 80 years old aunt and chocolate soufflé which is creamy and delicious made by the chef. I just wish I could rate...
Read moreGreat value and great effort for something different with quality in Ampelas village in Paros. Nice beachfront environment. Good tastes in my mouth but not something exceptional to rate with five stars. I was surprised with the scallops! The carpaccio was fine and big portion for two people. The roof tartar wasn't good I think I had to select the tuna tartar instead. The shrimp ceviche was a little too spicy even though I like chilly taste a lot I think the chili dominated instead of simply accentuating the flavor and the shrimps. The deserve was ok. Good wine list and the waitress helped me to choose something that I have never tasted so, this was the second surprise that made me feel good! Free soumadia shot at the end. You have to reserve table at least two - three days before on order to have a beachfront table with view. I was about to leave the restaurant because they did mistake with the table in my reservation. But I was lucky because I was alone and I was lucky because I sat finally in the aisle with great view!! Overall, I believe blue oyster is great but expensive for the location, food and service even though they did great work to be different than the other classic Greek seafood restaurants. Maybe if I order fish next time I will have...
Read morefrom booking to bill ( which was 60 euros more than it should have been ) and everything in between, this experience was poor.
Thank you for your reply. I repeat what I said above which is supported by your reply.
Your management skills and the quality of your customer relations are plain for all to see. The relationship to the truth is hard to recognise and amounts to a very poor example of Greek hospitality. After 55 years visiting Greece for business and pleasure I can honestly say I have not come across such low quality behaviour. In fact, as you well know, the hotel booked 4 consecutive nights at your restaurant. After the third I wrote my review and cancelled the 4th booking. I did not list the defects. I have nothing but admiration and sympathy for your staff. The review was not based on a single visit and it was carefully considered. Having dined in many places not once have I sent back a bottle of wine because I did not like it. Tourists take note that this restaurants bills are in Greek which may put you at a disadvantage if you do...
