We went here on a Friday evening and we regret it. It was a bad experience, even though at the entrance they welcomed us nice.
Interior looks really old and they did not invest in it at all. The chairs are way too high from the table. You may see the lack of organization from the moment you enter the restaurant: plastic beer crates are sitting in a part of the restaurant.
We were 4 persons and when we sat at the table there were only 3 plates. They did not bother to bring another one, we had to pick the plate from a nearby table.
They have brought us bread and water prior to take our order and they charged us for it. Considering the main course that we have ordered, we did not need any bread. And maybe we didn't want water to drink.
We had some starters and they didn't pick up our starter plates and they have brought us the main course. We had to arrange the dirty plates to make some place for the main course. (Serving is a disaster) We sat with all the dirty plates in front uf us until we paid the bill. A person gave us the menu, another one pick up the order, a different one brought us the food and so on...we had to stop somebody from the staff everytime to ask for something.
It was the only restaurant in all Thassos which didn't give us dessert from the house.
All in all, the restaurant was not full during our stay. Still, they were really bad organized in therms of staff. The food is avarage, nothing special. The prices are big for what they offer and the "greek show" or "greek night" is average. It is just to distract you from bad serving and average food..I would say it is more of a tourist trap. Avoid this place and don't come all this way here. There are many other nice...
Read moreWe’ve been visiting Taverna Augustos in Theologos, Thassos, for at least 10 years, and it never disappoints! The Greek nights are the absolute highlight, offering an incredible atmosphere with talented performers who truly engage the audience. The guitarist is especially amazing, playing for hours on end and even singing songs in various languages to include everyone. The service is warm, family-oriented, and welcoming, and the owner, Augustos, is always present — even singing himself, which adds so much charm.
The food is generally great, with generous portions and plenty of variety. The kid on the spit is a true showstopper — juicy, tender, and bursting with flavor. In fact, Theologos is famous across Thassos for this traditional specialty, and they absolutely nail it here. The fish is also excellent, and the calamari is very well cooked and beautifully presented. While the prices have gone up over the years, the quality and the experience make it worthwhile. My only gripe was the octopus — 18 euros for just one tentacle felt a bit steep. Unfortunately, I only have a picture of this dish, but I am sure you can find plenty of fish pictures in other reviews.
This year they’ve made a smart improvement by adding nets around the tavern to keep wasps away, making the dining experience even more pleasant. They also welcomed our dog with open arms, which we really appreciated.
And of course, the Greek night isn’t complete without the breaking of dishes at the end — plenty of dancing, laughter, and pure good vibes. It’s always full on Greek nights, so make sure to reserve ahead if you want a table.
Highly recommend for unforgettable memories, lively ambiance, and a real taste of Greek...
Read moreFrom the start, the picolo slammed on the table, without asking, a bottle of still water and a basket full of bread (that we did not consume- and was on the invoice at the end) I asked to take the still water away and to bring us a sparkling water instead. That costed us 5 euros (instead of 3).
We ordered a carafe of (the worst) white house-wine that we ever tasted ever.
My little girl wanted a chicken schintzel, me I ordered the grilled octopus (on the menu there were 2 tentacles, by the way… after I refused the schnitzel that was burned, oily and cooked in burned oil… the octopus tentacle came alone…. No more pair! I asked for another one. That also came alone… the first had some olives arround.. the second had only some fresh onion ! I also ordered mousaka that was… ok, basic I mean…and cold.
The only star is for letting us bringing in our little dog… but the cherry on top was that he was “reworded” with a not so subtle kick from a...
