Taverna Stelios
This is "All about meat place". Tremendous. Excelent greek restaurant which is not what you have met on the coast. Well, lets go step by step. The village where it is located is called Theologos, Thassos Island. It is a nice village in the mountains of Thassos. I found the village as place wih lots off mini stores selling hand made souvenirs. There are also galeries of local artists. But lets get back to the Stelios taverna. If you are bored from sea food and having a meat is a must, you have to head to this taverna. The meat is mostly lamb ang goat. Roasted. Very tenderous, very tasty. The amount of food for the money given is more than enought. Prices are lower than the one on the restaurant located near the shore of the island. Service is ok. The waiters are not very kind because they are trying to take the order as quick as possible and bring the food quickly. Also restaurant was very crowded when we were, so the quickest the service was the better. At the time we were there was not a live music which was good for me. Please be aware that car must be parked on the village stadium, on your right side after you enter the village. The walk which have to be done afterwards is 5-10 min. Parking is free of charge. No worries. We had a great time at this taverna. In my opinion there was not sea food, but no one asks for sea food at...
Read moreI will try to be honest and lenient, mostly due to the superb waiting staff and the things out of their control.
We ordered a bougiournti, a cucumber & tomato salad, a plate of lamb and a mixed variety of meats.
The bad: the meats were definitely not freshly-prepared, as advertised, and felt reheated. Especially the lamb felt reheated to the point where the fat was gummy and inseparable from the meat. The pancetta was in a similar state. Another problem is that the restaurant is full of wasps -- this is not their fault and they try to help the situation with a jar of burning coffee, but it's still annoying.
The good: I have only good things to say about the waiting staff. Everyone was kind and welcoming, and they respected our place in the queue. The waiter asked us about our experience, immediately offered to replace the meat (we decided not to, but that was our choice) and remained respectful. I only take one star from the service because it's unacceptable for the kitchen management to allow reheated meals to reach the customer's table. The ingredients in the salad were flavorful and fresh. Some of the meats were good (sausage, pork and chicken souvlaki, soutzoukaki). French fries were also fresh and tasty.
Honorable mention to the amazing service team of cats roaming around. Make sure to tip well with a few...
Read moreA mountain village located in Theologos which in translation means the Word of God, a town blessed by God, with fairytale landscapes, located above the main road, access is via steps, is decorated in ancient style with amphorae and other objects of venerable antiquity. Stelios the owner of the tavern is a wonderful man, he personally welcomes his guests with great warmth, as soon as it happened that we stopped in front of his tavern he lifted the chairs that were occupying his parking spaces and invited us to park there and we even chatted for a good few minutes with ek, he knows how to make himself pleasant. The service is impeccable even if we caught a very busy moment of the day we didn't wait more than a few minutes5. The food cooked in traditional Greek style is really tasty and healthy, at the end chuar told me what is the secret of the special taste of the lamb he prepared. The portions are huge, being three people we wanted to order one portion for each, but the waiter explained to us that it was too much, although initially we were confused, we ordered only two: one lamb and one pork. When our huge portions arrived that we couldn't finish we realized why we were advised to limit ourselves to two portions for...
