Didn’t even get to the food. We had a reservation for 12 people at 8:30 PM and arrived 10 minutes late, as the town of Theologos is small and there is little to no available parking, so we had to drive further from the restaurant. As we entered, the atmosphere was very loud and it was very hot inside because of the open kitchen we had to go through (which I found kind of weird). We told the staff that we had made a reservation for 8:30 PM over the phone but they said that they understood 8, not 8:30. For this reason a waiter told us to wait until a table would be free, which for 12 people is not so easy, as you can imagine. We then waited outside in front of the tavern along other people who did NOT have a reservation. Around 8:50 the manager (so not the waiter) came and asked us how many we were, so we told him and mentioned our reservation. He replied in a very rudely manner that it was not his problem we were late TWENTY minutes, even though we had arrived only ten minutes late and told us to leave. Then he invited another group inside which was just 6 people. Either way, it was clear that no other table could be prepared for us, even if we were waiting, as other people would get a table before us.
I cannot deny that both parties were at fault, however, you cannot expect from the owner of a restaurant so highly praised to treat their customers like trash. If he had politely told us that there had been made a mistake regarding our reservation and that we could not be served that night, this could have been another story.
About the food I cannot express my opinion but the service is honestly horrible. From my opinion I strongly do not recommend going to this restaurant....
Read moreThe lamb on spit was great and if it was only for food I'd give this restaurant four stars without hesitation. However, I just can't understand the need to scam your customers for another 10 to 15 euros even though you're making a nice amount of money given the fact that the restaurant is always full. When we first sat down, the waiter has brought us a bottle of water, like they always do in greek restaurants. Also on our table was already placed a basket with some bread which we didn't ask for, nor eat. After finishing our meal, the waiter passed by our table leaving us a plate with not-so-great dessert which he told us was on the house when he saw our confusion since we didn't order it. After paying we've checked the bill to see if this was another tourist trap or really nice, welcoming place. To our great disappointment we've found that the later was true. Not only did they charge us the bottle of water and the bead we haven't asked for, but they've also charged us the dessert that they've said was on the house, adding another 10 to 15 euros to our bill. The bill was written in greek alphabet so I reckon they've though we wouldn't notice anything suspicious, but we were eager to check if this was another tourist trap and to our disappointment we found out that it actually was. I don't recommend you to leave another cent to these dishonest scammers.
Edit: See the owner's response below - And this is how they react when they've been exposed. Not a single word of sincere concern for the experience of their customers but only insults. You're a shame to the Greek culture and all honest hard woking...
Read moreI recently visited Iatrou Tavern, and my experience was far from pleasant. Upon arrival, I was immediately struck by the unusual presence of several sickly-looking cats roaming freely around the dining area. Disturbingly, these cats were not just lounging; they were also peeing on tables and even on people sitting on them.
Hoping to salvage the situation, I politely requested the owner to keep the cats away from my table. Shockingly, the response I received was that the cats did not belong to the restaurant, and therefore, they could not do anything about it. This lack of responsibility and concern for the dining environment was deeply disappointing.
Moving on to the food, it was mediocre at best. The dishes were neither great nor terrible, but one thing was clear: the ingredients were definitely not fresh. The most glaring issue was the oil used for frying. It was apparent from both the taste and smell of the French fries that the oil hadn't been changed in a while. The stale, greasy aroma was off-putting, and the flavor of the fries was distinctly unpleasant.
Overall, my experience was highly unsatisfactory. The presence of sick cats, combined with the indifferent attitude of the owner and the subpar quality of the food, made for an unenjoyable visit. I would not recommend this place to anyone looking for a decent...
