Taverna Giorgos — Restaurant in Thassos Municipality

We arrived at the Taverna in the afternoon. The place looks nice, although it is next to the street. But this didn’t bother. The olives trees garden is amazing and you can park right in the middle. The restaurant is clean and the young staff friendly and smiling. The athmosphere was too silent for me. Missed some greek music. We had some baked feta cheese and zuchinni with tzatziki as apperitives. They tasted good, but the zuchinni maybe a little too much oil soaked. Then the Bolognese pasta was good, but again, not wow. The Chicken Gyros was decently tasty, but the portion too small compared to other tavernas on the island. But I guess also the good prices reflected it: 1 x lemonade, 2 x fanta, 1 x big water, 1 x big beer draught, 1 x zuchinni with tzatziki, 1 x baked feta, 1 x Bolognese pasta, 1 x Chicken Gyros + watermelon on the house = 47 eur; not bad. All in all, it was a good experience, but not the best...

This tavern is a huge MUST for everybody visiting Thasos!!! The easy and fast to comment is the exceptionally friendly, smiling and fast service of Giorgos, his wife and his sons. The food though… plainly and simply great. Everything looks, feels and tastes absolutely homemade. Nothing at all resembles to the usual touristic food one could expect in a highly touristic place like Thasos. We have been 3 continuous years in Koinira and Giorgos’s Tavern is the one place we can find well cooked and tasty food as if it was made at home. As for the prices, for the touristic character of the island I must say they are way cheaper than the average. I stand impressed from everything I have encountered. I recently had the pleasure of dining at this taverna, and it was an unforgettable experience. From the moment we walked in, we were greeted with warm smiles and the inviting aroma of home-cooked food. The atmosphere is cozy and rustic, with wooden tables and chairs, charming decor that transports you straight to a quaint village in Greece. The staff were incredibly friendly and attentive, making us feel right at home from the start. The menu offers a variety of dishes that highlight fresh, local ingredients. We had grilled octopus, moussaka (honestly, the best I ever tried in Thassos), lamb chops and a huge mix fish.
