Taverna Sta Kala Kathoymena — Restaurant in Thassos Municipality

Initially, I gave 2 stars without any explanation, considering the experience didn’t deserve further effort. However, the ironic and unprofessional response from the restaurant made me return and clarify.

I ordered a seafood platter which included fish — although this was not mentioned in the menu. I don’t eat fish, and I expected that to be clearly specified.

Before ordering, I asked if the platter came with fries, as it usually does in most places around. I was told it didn’t, so I ordered a separate portion — obviously expecting it to be served with the platter. Instead, the fries were brought about 30 minutes before the main dish, with no logic in the service flow.

The rest of the experience was just as disorganized: someone at our table received the salad and fish with an unjustified delay between them, while two others ordered the same platter as me and received it much earlier — they had already finished eating before mine even arrived.

The food itself was mediocre. The mussels were inedible for me, although I normally enjoy them in other restaurants.

The most disturbing part: I witnessed a completely inappropriate gesture. A staff member mockingly made the sign of the cross after a customer asked a question — a disrespectful reaction that has no place in a hospitality setting.

Sadly, instead of responding to a negative review with professionalism, the establishment chose sarcasm. That alone confirms the lack of respect toward customers and fully justifies the final 1-star rating.

I want to clarify the following points: I explicitly asked whether the fries would be served together with the seafood platter. I did not return to your restaurant the next day at noon. I did not order mussels.

We’re currently enjoying a family vacation in the beautiful Thassos island, staying in the peaceful Kinira region, and after trying every nearby tavern, there’s one place that completely stole our hearts (and appetites): Sta Kala Kathoymena Tavern.

Their genuine hospitality and attention to detail give the place a unique charm that makes every meal feel like dining at a good friend’s home. I had the most wonderful experience at this charming taverna run by a beautiful local family. From the moment we arrived, we were welcomed with warm smiles and genuine hospitality that made us feel like part of their home.

The food was absolutely delicious – everything was fresh, homemade, and prepared with so much love. You could truly taste the quality in every bite. Their traditional Greek dishes were some of the best I’ve had on the island, especially the seafood and their local specialties.
