Dear Google Readers and Reviewers, welcome to another review of the beautiful island of Zakinthos. This time I will review Banana Baya Beach Bar and trust me, things will not look good. As I have mentioned in other reviews. I am deeply saddened to leave “bad” reviews to places that I really like but out of respect for what I am doing, I have to.
Let’s start with the area. Banana Baya Beach Bar is located at Vasilikos and is nearly 12km away from the Port of Zante. It is really easy to find it and the road signs will correctly navigate you there. It has a big parking lot so it’s almost impossible to not find a place to park. Their beach bar and restaurant gives nice vibes and it has a live DJ playing music. They have plenty of sun beds with the cheapest set (an umbrella with two sun beds) costing €12. When it comes to the food they serve, it is nice and well-prepared. We ordered a couple of salads and club sandwiches and from this aspect-at least- we were satisfied.
Now, the problems started-and are so serious that erased from my memory the above- with the staff.
First Occasion
I was sitting at the beach bar sipping my cold Greek Frappe coffee near the stairs that take you to the restaurant. At the table next to me, there was a lady sitting having her fizzy drink. Everything was going well until the manager or supervisor of the beach bar-he was wearing different clothes from the waiters-approached a waiter and told him to pressure the lady sitting next to me to order something else because “she has been sitting there for three hours with only a drink”. I looked the waiter and I realised that he felt so bad regarding what he had to do. Long story short, the waiter went to that lady 3 times within 10 minutes to ask her whether she wanted to order something else. Eventually, the lady left.
However, this is nothing compared to what I am going to describe bellow which is outrageous.
Second Occasion
So, let’s start. In the middle of the beach there is a small station where all the waiters delivering food from the restaurant to the umbrellas are stationed. Also, the staff responsible for the umbrellas and the sun beds are also stationed there. Apart from the multiple Greek guys that are working there, there is also a guy from Bangladesh. The amount of discrimination and racially abuse that this guy is receiving from SOME AND NOT ALL members of staff is unbelievable. Phrases like “Listen to me you f@ck@@@ Bangladeshi”, were frequent which made us feel really uncomfortable. It is UNACCEPTABLE in a place like Zante where people from all over the world visit to have such a racial bullying behaviour.
I was deeply saddened by this event and I promise you that I will not come back.
I am kindly asking the owner of this place which I am sure that he cares about his business more than some of his staff to take action and protect the aforementioned person from such comments. Nobody deserves that. I am sure that the rest of the staff know all these things but are afraid to speak up to avoid having problems with their coworkers. Individuals that think like that let alone say these things have no place in the Greek tourism industry.
Banana Baya owner please...
Read moreHad an absolutely top quality day out!
Started off with brunch which we all really enjoyed although not too much option for kids on the brunch menu.
Had reserved 3 sets of the blue sun loungers with umbrella costing €45 in total 👌
The staff are very friendly & take orders from your loungers.
There are 3 showers to rinse off & a changing room. Toilets are very nice located in the bar area.
The best part for us was how shallow the sea is! Absolutely brilliant for kids & adults as you can be 70-80 metres from the shore & still be knee-waist high water. Lovely & warm too. Just PERFECT 👍
Prices for drinks & snacks are responsible. €2.50 for water, €3.50 for coke zero, €5 for a beer, €3-€4 for an ice cream.
Had a shared lunch here 2 days before consisting of pitta with trio of dips, bao buns, tacos & cheesy garlic bread. All lovely.
To the right of the beach are water sports. We did a double parachute parasailing ride which was €80. 10 on a boat so 5 rides went on while your out at sea. All good fun. WE ALSO SAW A GLIMPS OF A 🐬 JUMPING!!! Quite rare I think?!
Finished up with dinner in the restaurant which was all great as all very hungry by then. Kids chicken nuggets, pizza, burgers, sandwich & pasta. All very much devoured!
We also got a complimentary dessert to share 👌
DEFINITELY go here, I don't think you'll be disappointed!
If you want quiet, stay away from the speakers as very loud but awesome music if you...
