Votsalo Taverna — Restaurant in Zakynthos Municipality

Fantastic choice for an elevated intimate dining experience. I usually don't like eating at places with a "view" as all too often the food is an afterthought and the good reviews are solely based on the mesmerizing vista . Fortunately this is not the case at this place, the kitchen can keep up. I'd highly recommend this for a romantic lunch or evening. Pricing overall is absolutely fair for the level of service and quality of the kitchen. I'll most definitely be back, especially since the service was also friendly and courteous. Great decision to ban smoking cigarettes in your restaurant. It's the first time I've seen this in Greece, if not anywhere in continental Europe. This is common practice in the US, if there is a roof over your head you cannot smoke. Fortunately smoking is a thing of the past in the US, UK and many other nations. Greece & Europe is a long way away but it's truly nice to see a place make an effort to protect the patrons and ensure a good experience...

We came across this wonderful taverna thanks to a local guy from the shore who we rented a boat from — and it turned out to be the best decision!

The view from the restaurant is simply magical, and the whole ambiance made us feel completely at ease. We went around 1 p.m. for lunch and enjoyed a delicious spread — a fresh Greek salad, crispy fried squid, and a savory beef patty that stood out from everything else we tasted here. It seemed completely homemade, filled with herbs and rich in flavor, different from any other patty you’d find somewhere else. The homemade bread was a perfect match to all the dishes.

We stayed very close to this amazing taverna for seven days and had each evening (except one which was afterwards a stupid idea) our dinner there. The food is amazing, from the starters to the dessert everything was perfect. The fish (dorata or sea bream) was perfectly grilled over charcoal with a perfect mix of herbs and a very tasty potato salad. You MUST try the "Rabbit of Zakynthos" with its sauce with a touch of cinnamon, sounds interesting, smells and tastes amazing! The "Greek Tradditionals" (Souvlaki, Moussaka, ...) are also perfect. The two guys running the taverna are very friendly, happy to explain the menue in detail and just make you feel very welcome.
