What a hidden gem! It looks awful from the outside. Like nothing special at all, and honestly, the same goes for the inside. Normally, I would try to avoid restaurants with photos of the food plastered all over the place, but I craved fried rice with chicken (nr. 29), and with the reviews, we thought it couldn't be too bad. We were pleasantly surprised. The portions are large and tasted great, although it could use a bit more salt. The prices are fair for Greenland, and we could eat for under 300DKK for two people. We ate here twice because it was better and much cheaper than other places in town. They serve the fried rice with a fried egg on top and a small salad on the side. They seemed to have noticed that we did not eat the pickles in the salad the first time and omitted them the second time we ordered. That is great service. You order at the desk, and they let you know when the food can be picked up. It is mostly self-service, but I noticed that they went to look for people if the food was not picked up so they get 5 stars for that. It is possible to sit outside with a great view of the city and the icebergs, which is wonderful when the sun is shining - remember bug spray as the mosquitos gather...
Read more95-125 kr for a dish (so $15-$20 USD). A steal if you’re in Greenland, where a hotel restaurant meal is ~$45 USD at least. Affordable, super fast service, tasty. If you don’t come here for the food, then come here for the view. Also, if you’re using your airline meal voucher for delayed flights, the voucher is 120 kr. So this place covers it!
There’s also whale in curry dish?!
This place gets packed during meal times from locals, folks working in tourism (and of course tourists). I take it as a cue. Lots of take out orders.
There’s pictures on the wall of the food/menu, so don’t worry.
I thought the food was value and tasty enough! And if you’re in a hurry, they are FAST.
Don’t let the name fool you. It’s all sorts of Asian dishes and things like burger and fries, not Hong Kong...
Read moreLook, you aren't coming to Greenland for the food. In fact, you come here despite the food. As a vegetarian, eating well in Greenland is downright impossible. So thank heavens for the Hong Kong Cafe, which is literally the only place in town with a vegetarian menu. Admittedly, the food is overly salty and full of MSG. But even though it is not exactly fine dining, it is a feast for vegetarians who are tired of eating nuts, muesli and bread for sustenance. In fact, it's probably the only place in town that cooks up noodles. The majestic view over the iceberg-laden bay is a great plus. It's unfussy, vegetarian friendly food at a...
