Safe swimming at all states of the tide, just stay away from the rocks at either side of the bay. Sandy at the top of the beach and lower down too but has a band of stones across which can catch the unwary when the tide is in. Nice rock pools along the edges of the bay and usually a family of ducks to keep the kids entertained.
Unless the wind is coming from the south you'll be well sheltered from all other wind directions due to the steep sides of the bay.
Tea room and restaurant at the head of the bay serves reasonably priced food and refreshments. There are also toilets adjacent to the Tea room.
There is a Martello tower which is open to the public across the road from the Tea room.

Parking is available nearby. Lovely kiosk there too, just up the road from the beach. Seems very popular with locals and holidaymakers for a nice early morning swim Also great for kayaking and paddle boarding. The beach kiosk is run by friendly staff. Dozens of rock pools full of different marine life to be explored, nets and buckets are a must! A fresh water stream that runs onto the beach from the surrounding cliffs makes for some striking views as it runs off the rocks, through the garden of the cafe and onto the beach itself.
