Unfortunately we were disappointed with this visit for lunch which is a shame as we have been before and had no issue. Our black pudding scotch egg with tamarind sauce was a very weird combination of flavours that just didn’t work and not something we would order again. Our other starter of white bait and calamari was overcooked and greasy. On to the mains, the chicken burger and fries were nice enough but again greasy and it didn’t taste like it was cooked in fresh oil. The other main, chicken and chorizo pie special with mash and greens. Awful. The chicken in the pie was dry as a bone and had one slice of chorizo. The mash hadn’t seen any butter and the veg was so undercooked it was practically raw. It was also served with a beef gravy which we thought was odd. When we arrived we asked to be seated elsewhere which was accommodated. The waiters were friendly although we found it odd that they didn’t pour our first glass of wine from the bottle we bought. It was just plonked on the table with our glasses for us to open and pour. As regular eat outers and foodies, this was weird to us. We did complain about all of the above and they gave us 20% off our food bill but we won’t be back in a hurry unfortunately.

Visited The Deerhound for a Sunday carvery which is most definitely the best on the island!! And found out that they were offering the Tennerfest so we went back Tuesday for another meal! 🐷 But we are so glad we did! Because we had a very tasty meal and was spoilt for choices! Everything tasted amazing and was so beautifully served, tasted great, was hot when it was supposed to be and not left waiting for ages in between meals, it was faultless!! Craig and Team couldn’t do enough for us, super attentive and so friendly, felt very welcome and comfortable as always. With out a shadow of a doubt we are always incredibly taken care of, and that bread and butter pudding is simply the best šŸ‘ŒšŸ¼ so glad it’s back on the menu šŸ˜‹ Thank you to all at The Deerhound, for your superb service at your cosy establishment, looking forward to seeing you all again soon! Couldn’t fault the Sunday Carvery lunch, never as good as home-cooked, but a solid 9/10. Great selection of roast meats to choose from: Pork, Beef & Chicken, plus vegetarian options and also 3 gravies: chicken, red wine & gluten-free options. The veg was superbly cooked and topped up regularly with fresh and not over-cooked in the slightest. Yorkshire puddings were huge and plentiful Place was busy, but was plenty of room outside in the beautiful beer garden and service was friendly and prompt. Only downside, I would say, was expensive drinks at Ā£11 for a large measure of wine, which looked distinctly on the small side for a large measure! The roast itself at Ā£16.95 was good value though Although menu choice was fairly limited

Poor experience tonight. No house water served at the tables anymore. They want you to walk up to the bar and fill the water glasses from a dispenser. Are they thinking customers would feel that that would be a kinda walk of shame or something? A cheap tactic from the new management to coerce customers into buying more soft drinks or alcohol. Next… burnt fish, although chips good. Next… when we requested for the bill, we were asked to pay at the till. The lady was visibly offended when we asked her to remove the service charge from the bill. Very poor body language, no eye contact, absolutely zero professionalism. No concept of customer service whatsoever. Why should I tip or pay service charge if they can’t even get me a glass of water. Sad thing is, we thought this is the new Deerhound. There was decorum in customer service even when the decor needed upgrading before refurbishment. Disappointed. Will visit again if no other better choice.

7.7.24: This is my new review after an unhappy experience in the past as you can see above. I had given 1 star for our previous visit. We went to a curry night last Thursday. There were different curries, mixed seafood, lamb, chicken, beef and aubergine. White rice, yellow/saffron rice and naan breads. Good effort, curries were nice. The rice dishes were dry, but I think this was because they were on the warming plate. Same with Naan breads. My son went for the standard fish and chips and he loved it.

One other new thing we noticed, we were served water at the table, which wasn't the case before. Full marks for this service. The waiters were really kind. They weren't over bearing and at the same time, did not ignore us either. They got that balance right. We are going to try the Monday pie night next. 5 stars. Thanks you and Well done...

We had the pleasure of enjoying the Sunday carvery recently, and it was an absolutely delightful experience! Beatrice, who hosted us, was an absolute sweetheart. She was warm, attentive, and ensured everything ran smoothly from start to finish. Her kind and friendly demeanor truly made us feel welcome and added a personal touch to our visit. 🄰 The food was simply amazing—everything was cooked to perfection, from the succulent meats to the flavorful sides. The variety offered was impressive, and each dish was bursting with flavor.

The service overall was excellent, with every member of the team going above and beyond to ensure we had a great time. The atmosphere was inviting and relaxed, making it the perfect setting for a Sunday treat.

Thank you to Beatrice and the team for making this such a memorable experience. We can’t wait to return! Highly recommend to anyone looking for fantastic food and exceptional service. āœØā™„ļø

I just wanted to reply and I didn’t know how, but I will leave this one here:

Hello Rob and the Deerhound team,

Thank you so much for your lovely response! I’m truly delighted to know this came from the owner. If you have such an amazing and supportive team, it speaks volumes about the kind of person you are. Your leadership and kindness clearly reflects in the team’s warmth, service, and smiles, which make the entire experience so special.

Congratulations on creating such a positive environment and for doing such a fantastic job with your team. It really shows in everything they do. I look forward to visiting again soon!

We can't get enough of the deerhound! We had 3 courses & even asked for things not on the menu, (sorry & thank you chef!) we were absolutely stuffed! The food is always divine & the service is prompt, thorough & always with a smile, we cannot fault the team and look forward to next time! Thank you šŸ–¤

Another extremely enjoyable meal at The Deerhound, it just gets better each time!! The staff are always attentive, thorough & polite, and it's a lovely, clean, calming atmosphere. See you again soon! Thank you all šŸ–¤

Absolutely love The Deerhound, it's our only go to for special occasions & treats! The staff are always friendly and welcoming, plenty of parking which is a bonus! The menu choice is varied, I have a really fussy 18 year old, she doesn't eat a great deal so eating out can be a mission! I emailed Craig to ask if they had a certain dish on the menu for her, which they didn't, however, Craig went above & beyond & said he would be happy to purchase the ingredients and have chef make the dish! (It was absolutely amazing, thank you , says 18YO) This was very much unexpected but extremely appreciated, we wanted to enjoy a belated mother's day meal together! & We absolutely did! The carvery was once again perfection, my 20 YO & I loved the selection, all our favourites & no clearing up!! Hubz had the burger, again, as always the best burger he's ever had! Excellent value for money, & our main server Sojib was lovely & polite , thank you,...
