They are charging prices comparable to 5-star beach clubs in the world but offering a service that falls short of expectations, resembling more of a 2-star experience.
I have had the pleasure of visiting this establishment twice before, with the total bill amounting to around 200,000 HUF on the first occasion and approximately 400,000 HUF most recently. Our party consisted of six individuals, including three adults and three children.
As seasoned travelers who have frequented renowned beach clubs around the world such as Nikki Beach, Nammos, O Club, Scorpios, Ku De Ta, and others, we have come to appreciate the hallmark of these establishments: their commitment to providing high-end service.
At these renowned clubs, when you place an order, it is promptly delivered to your table without the need for you to search for the waiter. Additional activities such as hookah, water sports rentals, and massages are readily available and brought directly to your cabana. Unfortunately, Plage18 fails to offer this level of service despite charging prices equivalent to these world-class beach clubs.
It is understandable that in Hungary, there is a tendency to continuously increase prices. However, even affluent individuals are discerning and expect a commensurate level of service when paying a premium.
The pricing for beverages seems reasonable, such as a bottle of Moët served with fruits and ice in an elegant champagne tumbler priced at 40,000 HUF, considering a store price of 20,000 HUF. A 100% markup is acceptable in this regard.
However, the exorbitant cost of a cast iron pan of fried king prawns, consisting of only five pieces, priced at almost 10,000 HUF, raises concerns. By comparison, fresh king prawns can be obtained for approximately 7,000 HUF per kilogram at METRO (with 1 kilogram usually consisting of around 20-30 pieces). This discrepancy is striking.
Furthermore, the price of steak is unjustifiable, with a staggering 20,000 HUF price tag. There is no information provided regarding the type or origin of the meat. As individuals well-versed in steak appreciation, having indulged in real A5 Wagyu in Japan, experienced multiple occasions of dry-aged steak, and savored genuine New York Strip in New York, we can confidently attest to the value offered by PRIME Steakhouse in Budapest. Located in the heart of the capital, they charge 14,900 HUF for a steak.
In addition to the cabana rental fee, you are also required to pay an extra 10,000 HUF per person for entry to the beach club. These individuals will not be occupying beach beds but will simply be enjoying the cabana you have rented. While I understand the desire to maximize revenue, renowned 5-star beach clubs typically deduct the cost of cabana rental and entrance fees from the final bill. This practice often results in customers spending even more overall.
For me personally, the issue of price gouging is not new, and it appears to be a common occurrence in Hungary. However, it is the fact that Plage18 offers a 2-star service at 5-star prices that truly disappoints me.
Lastly, I must mention the parking situation, which has become a nightmare. Considering the premium prices charged, one would expect adequate parking facilities. It is unrealistic to assume that clientele will rely on public transportation or travel from Budapest Deli Palyaudvar.
Despite these shortcomings, I recognize the potential for greatness in this place if these issues are addressed. My suggestion to owner is to visit establishments like Scorpios in Mykonos, Sant Anna, and Nikki Beach to observe their operations and learn from their exemplary service. Only then can Plage18 aspire to receive a more favorable rating from me, reaching its...
Read moreWe went to the beach here and then the restaurant for lunch. It costs 5000pp just to enter the beach. The guys 'welcoming' us were unbelievably rude. We were not permitted to even take water in with us to the beach area and were practically snarled at and rudely handed a menu (water was about £2 for 330ml) when we asked if there was any tap water. Anyway, we were shown to admittedly a very beautiful area to relax for the day. You are offered things from the menu frequently throughout the day which was frankly a bit annoying. We decided to go to the restaurant for lunch. We had a Caesar salad each, shared some wedges and had a beer and a glass of wine. The bill came to £36. If I was in London, I would have found this a little steep, but acceptable, especially if the quality of the food was good, along with the service. The waiter was more polite than the guys on the entrance, but still aloof; the food was filling but pretty boring; the wedges were from a packet. All in all, I would say avoid this place. It's pretty, but the staff are very, very rude, and there is a pretentious atmosphere all round. Better off nipping a bit further up the coast and paying a tenth of the price for a calm quiet, more local atmosphere. The beach is just as nice and you aren't made to feel as though you're trespassing or...
Read morePrices are the same as in Ibiza and the beach club generally looks good, service like in Albania or even worse. Despite the high ticket prices (20.000huf) , at the entrance staff checking bags if there is any water or food. They take away even 0.33l., even if it is a closed bottle. Also there is a deposit 5,000 forints for the towel as if someone is going to steal it 😂 To immediately replace water which was taken by staff - other staff offering a bottle of San Peligrino for 2150huf and not giving change 😅 WiFi doesn't work and this fact doesn’t embarrass them at all 😄You cannot leave the territory, if you anyway need to — most likely you will have to pay again. What else can I tell you? There are not many people who want to relax here, and, of course, it looks like a plus. The food in the restaurant is tasty and the waiter was nice, but the prices are very high, especially for drinks and alcohol. 2 salads, 1 appetizer and two cocktails - 48,000 forints (123 e). Find another beach if you want to have a really good...
