The restaurant was recommended to me by a Hungarian friend, and we have been there many times. Usually, we go there while having guests from abroad and never had issues until yesterday.
We booked a table well in advance.
At first, when we arrived, we were told that our table was outside and we nicely asked , because we are with children, in case it gets cold , can we move inside. The waiter told us no, you should decide now - inside or outside. He said they have reservations. It was not true. Inside tables were not taken at all.
Secondly, the place is famous with the variation of the roasted knuckles and this is the reason we go there. We were not informed that they were out of knuckles. They waiter told us only after we started ordering, and in a way, like this is the most normal thing, and I should know it somehow.
Thirdly, around 21:30, we were told that the place would be closed at 22:00. We were not informed about that at the time of reservation, at the time of arrival, not even asked for a last orders.
The overall feeling was that we are a burden for them, and they would have preferred not to have us there.
P.S. The food was delicious even though we went with the intention to eat knuckles.
We have never been treated like this before, on the contrary, before the service was nice even though the...
Read moreA great traditional/retro family restaurant in the 3rd district of Budapest. The menu was very extensive, focusing on traditional Hungarian and Central European cuisine.
The beer and palinka/schnapps selection was particularly comprehensive, with a wide range of options. The interior decor had a fin de siecle vibe towards the end of the Austro-Hungarian Empire. So very cool!
As far as the service was concerned, that left somewhat to be desired, as it took a bit too long for your orders to arrive at your table. Also, with the menus only in Hungarian, non-Hungarian speakers might find it challenging to order
Because the portions are quite generous, some customers packed up what they couldn't finish. Except in our case, they got me and my wife's to go box mixed up with someone else from our party.
All in all, it was a good experience and tasty fare. But be prepared to wait for your food and make sure that your to go box doesn't...
Read moreI was a bit skeptical when a local friend described this place as having big portions. Yes, the portions are huge AND the food is fantastic!!
We were stuffed to the gills after sharing an appetizer, two soups, and three meals all between 4 people.
I worry soup at restaurants has sat in hot vats all day rendering all the vegetables mushy but this was not the case; both of the soups were fantastic.
We ordered a beef, pork, and turkey dish all with different sides and all of them were splendid. The restaurant has, as a side dish, something like a potato dumpling described as langos (not the usual langos) which was absolutely superb.
We ate in he courtyard and had a long, lazy lunch. Great service and setting and spectacular food!
We plan to return at least a...
