I am not exaggerating when I say this place has the best fish and chips I have ever consumed. We were exhausted, hungry, and worried we wouldn't find dinner before everything closed in Reykjavik. We stopped at Eldstó on a whim, and it ended up being one of the best meals of our entire trip. We both ordered the Fish and Chips (pro-tip: it's not on the menu, you have to ask for it!), and we were floored. I’ve eaten a lot of fish and chips, and this was, without question, the cleanest and most tender fish I have ever put in my mouth. The fries were perfectly seasoned and you get a very generous amount. We also warmed up with their two soups of the day (mushroom and carrot/bell pepper), which were just incredibly heartwarming and unlimited. (We love extra seasoning, so we added a pinch of the salt from the table, and they were perfect.) We were so blown away that we drove back out of our way for a second time just to have it all again. It was worth every mile.

TLDR: Good vegan options in a cute restaurant, but pricey, even for Icelandic standards. Service: kind and attentive. Atmosphere: cute, clean, and cozy. Wish there was not a TV though. Food: Overall, the food was quite good. The soup was nice, bread delicious, burger good, and curry flavorful. The falafel in the curry was not as good as the rest. I would have preferred with bread or tofu instead as the falafel was dry. All that said, this was the second most expensive meal we had on the island. Second, only to a Michelin, multi-course meal. I think it could have been about 10-20% less to within line with similar restaurants. Edit response to owner on price: My wife and I ordered a bowl of soup, the Lentil curry, and a vegan burger and no drinks. We were charged, 12,900Kr.

An unassuming spot by the road but it was amazing. Second favorite restaurant out of my whole two week trip in Iceland. The lamb soup is the best I’ve had in Iceland and the lasagna was great! The lamb soup was super herbal with tons of rosemary. Perfectly salted and great for a cold day. The meat was tender and the soup was so flavorful. The lasagna had horse meat in it so be aware! I thought it tasted great though. Meaty, tomato-ey, and filled with lots of noodle and cheese. The bread on the side was lightly toasted and had a slight garlic aroma. We had the elderberry alice of almond cake and it was delicious. Tart but also slightly sweet with a nice buttery crust. I wish I had a place like this close to my house!

The food was very good but the service was lacking. Perhaps it was just an off night for the staff, I don't know, but when we arrived, we waited for a staff member to ask for a table, only to be looked at and ignored. It would have been nice to have at least been acknowledged that they had noticed that we were there. Once seated, we were given just three glasses. No menus and no water carafe. (Another table was given a water carafe and no glasses but menus.) We waited a half hour and finally asked for water and menus and we were told to wait. Once we ordered, we waited another hour for our food. By this time we were starving and would have at least been appeased with a slice of bread or two to make up for the poor service. After the food arrived, we asked for ketchup, as there was none within eyesight. The waitress then acted as if we were completely stupid to have not noticed that there were packets of ketchup hidden in some pottery on a ledge a few feet behind us. Overall, the waitstaff seemed to be disorganized and unfriendly this night but the food was good, so we would give it one more try. Side note: very...

The place is generally nice, and every time I travel to Vik, I stop for at least a cup of coffee. During my recent visit, there were several staff members working, and most of them were friendly and welcoming. However, there was one waitress who exhibited rude behavior and lacked etiquette in the hospitality industry.

From the moment I entered and greeted her at the cashier, she seemed uninterested and didn't respond with any greetings, just asking, "Want a table or?"

When she brought our order, she didn't say anything and just left. On the other hand, there is another waitress with white hair who is incredibly nice. I overheard her greeting people warmly, asking about their orders, and ensuring they were satisfied. She even says, "Here you are, enjoy," which feels more welcoming.

Despite the overall pleasant atmosphere of the place, the negative experience with the one waitress really impacted my stay and made me feel unwelcome. I hope the management addresses this issue because I would hate to be deterred from...
