Just across the road from the iconic Strokkur Geyser, the Geysir Centre offers visitors a perfect balance of nature, design, and culinary delight, making it a must-visit stop during any Icelandic adventure.
Beyond the natural spectacle, the Geysir Centre's café and gift shop gives a welcoming space to relax and reflect. The design of the space is striking—combining raw materials like volcanic stone and thick wood slab tables with warm, contemporary elements. The massive windows provide a front-row seat to Iceland's sweeping landscapes, ensuring that even when you’re inside, the surrounding nature remains a focal point. The views from the café are undeniably stunning, rivaling those of the geyser itself.
The food is equally impressive. We shared a bowl of traditional lamb stew that was rich, hearty, and full of flavor—a dish that warmed us from the inside out. The pizza was simple but perfect, with every slice disappearing quickly, much to our son's delight. These are the kinds of meals that linger in your memory long after the last bite.
For design enthusiasts, the Geysir Centre doesn’t disappoint. The large concrete wall near the ordering area anchors the room, while pendant lights cast a soft glow, creating an ambiance that complements the natural light pouring in from the windows.
One unexpected yet delightful detail was the vintage footage of Icelandic wrestling playing softly in the background—an intriguing glimpse into the country’s cultural heritage.
The Geysir Centre is much more than just a café or gift shop—it’s an experience that thoughtfully combines Iceland's geothermal wonders, local cuisine, and modern design. For families, it strikes the perfect balance between being kid-friendly and offering an enriching...
Read moreSo you saw Geysir, and are hungry? Think of a skiing break at noon: EVERYONE has the same idea. In fact, it looks a lot like a ski station, and this is why they get four stars: for effort. This is not your typical run-of-the-mill fast food plus cheapo-shop, they tried to make it into something classy. Of course, classiness is completely drowned out by the sheer masses overflowing the place, and some weird design choices like putting a table wherever ther was a wee bit of room left (like connecting hallways), which is a little less inviting. Also, the open floor plan joins two restaurants and a supermarket, and it's hard to recognize which is which and where to queue. They also did a really good job wirh the shops, selling upmarket clothes and items rather than cheapo Trolls and huge biros. It's a joy browsing, but you wonder why there's no-one behind the cash register. Until you see the price tags, which makes you go to amazon immediately. Or at least wait for Selfoss, heck, even Reykjavik. For a very expensive place, this is probably the ici g on the cake. So it's more flagship stores than actually a sales place. I can recommend checking the printed T-Shirts, they have some nice & funny artwork at just about affordable prices .... oh, and the parking spaces: don't expect...
Read moreThe restaurant here is horrendously overpriced and the staff are miserable and not very helpful. We sat down and had a bowl of luke warm soup at a cost of $20 a bowl. Don't get me wrong, the soup tasted nice, but it would have been much better if it was actually hot rather than just over room temperature. Tried to raise the issue with the staff, but they were just unhelpful and bordering on just plain rude.
If you are going to eat there, I would suggest just going to the Bistro in the same building and not the main restaurant as it is cheaper and the people eating there seemed more content. Unfortunately we didn't see the Bistro until we was on our way out.
There was no hot water in the toilets (which is kind of ironic when you consider it is right next to a natural source of boiling water) and they were not very clean.
I would actually suggest giving the Geyser centre a miss unless you want to see some steam coming out of the ground. You would be much better off just driving by and going to the Gulfoss visitor centre. The parking is also free there and it is much cleaner and the food is good and more...
