TL:DR: if they’re busy, you may have slow service throughout; avoid the steak if you prefer it cooked on the rarer side.
Ate here for dinner. Overall, our experience was good. The ambiance (ate outside, there’s a waterfall adjacent, weather was sunny) was absolutely wonderful. On the night we were there, they appeared to be short staffed as we easily found a table but then had to go back to ask for menus and then waited a considerable time to order. People around us seemed to be having a similarly difficult time waiting to receive food or pay their bill. Maybe it was an off night, but I suppose watch out for busier nights, or go with a plan to stay awhile (we had nowhere to be, so waiting wasn’t an issue other than arriving with a considerable appetite). Our food was overall good, with some items being significantly better than others. On the plus side, the cocktails were fresh and very tasty. The baked cheese appetizer was unique, and quickly enjoyed. For mains, my wife ordered the seafood pasta which she liked. I order the ribeye and found it to be quite overcooked (it was still tender however, and the mushrooms and potatoes were good). If I were to go here again, the steak would be the one menu item I...
Read moreWe were in the area looking for a place to eat. Googled what’s near and out of all choices offered Kjarr really shined. I was very intrigued by the reviews. Looked at photos and we were on our way. What can i say, the reviews are not lying. For appetizer the beef carpaccio and i almost ate my fingers - it was this delicious. The lamb was the softest and the juiciest we’ve ever tried. And the crispy kale with it… Yumm. The arctic char was mouthwatering and that mustard sauce with capers and wilted tomatoes…OMG! We ordered some grilled bread on the side and that was not just grilled bread, it was a piece of cloud melting in my mouth. 🥰🤤 We did not plan on ordering dessert because i am not a sweets person but once i got downstairs to the lounge - all i could smell was the sweet aroma of rhubarb and apple crumble pie. I knew i can’t resist it and have to try. Oh my! Hit the spot. The warmness of apple and rhubarb and the little sourness in combination with the crumble and the cold vanilla icecream was a dance in my mouth. The service - impecable. Seeing how your food is cooked thru the open kitchen - amazing! Definitely recommend if you are in the area. Really made our icelandic...

This has been the BEST dinner we have had in the 10 days we have spent so far in Iceland!
The service was delightful, the food was exceptional, and the location by the waterfall is gorgeous! An open kitchen allows guests to see the chef at work, plating up the delectable dishes for the table.
We started with a couple drinks, had the lamb chops and ribeye for entrees, and finished with the rhubarb crumble for dessert.
The lamb was the juiciest, most tender lamb we have had since arriving in Iceland. The ribeye was perfectly medium rare plus. They were both served with a perfect demiglaze, some greens, and small roasted potatoes. The lamb had roasted carrots as well, which I always enjoy.
The rhubarb crumble was perfectly sweet, but the larger pieces were a little fibrous.
All in all, the total for two drinks, two entrees, and one dessert, was right at 150 USD, which is a steal compared to other restaurants! We couldn’t get this meal in the states for less.
I HIGHLY recommend trying this restaurant if you are...
