This place is a must visit if you are one of the hungry pants and would love to taste authentic street food of Ajmer. Famous for its chaat I searched the place on google. Location: Situated in Naya bazaar. I was staying near dargah. Walkable distance from dargah but if you aren't comfortable, you can take an e rickshaw at rs 10 per person or the local public auto.
Menu: You can read it from the board it serves all authentic chaats of ajmer.
What I tried? : I personally tried kadhi kachori, kadhi samosa, dahi papdi, aloo tikki and moong daal halwa. Photo attached below.
Review: I personally liked kadhi kachori the best. As a north indian, my imagination for kadhi was something else and at first I wasn't sure of trying it. But it turned out to be the best kachori I have tasted until now. Dahi papdi has its own flavour. Very lavishly made with papdi, good quality curd, one piece of dhokla, pomegranate seeds ( anaar), hari mirch with chutney and masala. Kadhi Samosa was almost same as kadhi kachori. But I personally liked kadhi kachori more. Aloo tikki was not you expect as a delhite. There was no dahi and papdi in it. It was two tikkis served with sweet chutney. But it was yummy. Moong daal halwa was a bit less sweet and filled with real desi ghee. Mouth watering sweet dish you can have!
Price: I don't remember exactly but I ordered everything in rounds. 1st round: 2 kadhi samosa and 1 kadhi kachori at Rs. 45 2nd round: Dahi papdi and aloo tikki at Rs. 60 3rd round: Moon dal halwa at Rs. 40.
This place is not over priced at all. Love the food at such rate.
Ambience: This place is a chaat corner with no sitting arrangement. So, it would be good if you go there empty handed. Although, you can sit in front of the shops opposite to Shankar chaat if the shopkeeper allows...
Read moreEstablished in 40s (somewhere in 1947 - 48), Shankar Chat is one of the most popular places to have Indian Snacks (Kachori, Samosa, Pakode and many more along with a variety of sweets).
I visited this place after 24 odd years and was surprised to see the change; the makeshift arrangement is now a proper shop and is managed by a young and lively gentleman (probably the third generation owner).
The signature snack of this place is Kachori* topped with Kadhi**, fresh chutney (made of mint, coriander and garlic) and tamarind sauce and spices. The piping hot Kadhi served with Kachori is unique as you will rarely find such a combination.
The owner was overwhelmed to know that I remembered the place after a decade too and he offered me one of my favourite sweets (Gulabjamun). The best part was that that taste of signature snack has not at all changed and the rush too is same.
This joint will remain on my list forever and whenever I visit the city will try to visit whenever in Ajmer.
Kachori: An Indian snack prepared with fine flour stuffed with green and black gram (cooked and mixed with asafoetida, black pepper, chillies and other Indian Spices). The dough stuffed with grams is fried in oil and served hot. ** Kadhi (Curry) is prepared with gram flour and curd and is mildly...
Read moreI was coming to dargah sharif from shatabdi delhi. Reached Ajmer around 12.50 pm afternoon. Took an auto to dargah, autowalla said 80/- for dropping and 200 for dropping and return too as I had to catch my 3.45 pm delhi shatabdi back. So due to paucity of time i said ok. Must say autowalla took an extremely narrow lane towards dargah. As it was ramzan, we had a great darshan of baba. After coming out it was 2.35 pm. I said to autowalla take us to Annasagar. We finished it in 10-15 min. Now time was 3.10 pm. I said to autowalla that take us to nice restaurant. Then he said you ll get food otherwise in train, why dont you try local taste. I said okay. He took me to this shop. I had 2 plate kadhi kachori, 1 samosa, 1 plate dhokla,1 dahi balla, 1 mango rabri. Dont judge..i was just hungry😊😊..well shopkeeper was helpful as he knew we were outsider plus big chickens to extract profit. Nevertheless it was experience. Lastly autowalla dropped us at ajmer station ard 3.35pm. He demanded 400/-, to which i felt angry and cheated. But what can someone do at such crucial juncture. I paid and went towards my train. I loved ajmer. I loved dargah feel. People were lil greedy but thats okay. Most importantly i had...
