AMBUR STAR BRIYANI SINCE 1890 — Restaurant in Bengaluru

Today, 11th September 2021, I went with my family to the BTM Layout outlet of Star Biryani for dinner. I do like Ambur Biryani served at Star biryani restaurants and therefore order it often through Zimato/Swiggy. I had even been to the BTM Layout outlet alsi a couple of times before. Today we ordered 3 Mutton Biryanies along with soft drinks. The Biryani was served hot and fresh. However, while we started eating, we realized that the Biryani was tasting different and was like bland taste. Then we realized that there was no salt added in the Biryani and therefore it was totally tasteless. I informed the supplier who then called the cashier Mr. Arun who is really a gentleman. He want inside the kitchen and confirmed that the Biryani today has been cooked without salt by mistake. He offered us replacement with Chicken Biryani which I refused. He then offered to give Chicken Biryani takeaway. I again said No problem it's OK and happens sometimes. He finally gave me 2 Chicken Biryanies as takeaway and billed me for only 2 chicken Biryanies. I offered to pay for the Mutton Biryanies also but he refused to accept it. He didn't bill me for the Mutton Biryanies even when I insisted. Overall, it was not good experience as we couldn't enjoy the good taste of Mutton Biryanies, but I can understand that sometimes it can happen like this. Biryani in India is as diverse as Indian culture and one such biryani type is the Ambur Briyani, which is very well known for it's flavorful well cooked rice and tender meat. One such place where we wanted to try this was at Star Briyani.

This is a very small restaurant with hardly 10 tables and everything is served in plantain leaves. We ordered the mutton Briyani and the chicken 65 Briyani. Before the Briyani comes in, you are served raita and mirchi ka Salan. The mirchi ka Salan is slightly spicy and goes very well with the Briyani rice. The raita is plain onions and curd, which compliments and cools any heat the biryani spices have to offer. The biryani pieces were cooked to perfection and melt in the mouth goodness, and the rice very flavourful. In the Chicken 65 Briyani, pieces of Chicken 65 were added on top of already cooked biryani rice and served. You could also order the Chicken 65 seperately, which comes topped with chaat masala and is delicious! All in all, it was a deliciously different experience!
