Restaurant Review: Biryani Zest (Visited on June 29, 2025 – Lunch Service)
I visited Biryani Zest for lunch on June 29, 2025. While the restaurant offers limited parking space (approximately 10 cars), I was advised by the staff to park across the street in an area affected by ongoing metro construction. Although it felt somewhat risky and potentially subject to fines, the staff's assurance provided some comfort.
Service and Ordering Experience: The ordering process was notably slow. It took approximately 15 minutes for a staff member to take our order. Once placed, the first item—Mutton Pepper Dry—was served after an additional 25-minute wait.
Food Quality and Taste:
Mutton Pepper Dry: Unfortunately, this dish was a major disappointment. The mutton was coated in an egg wash and corn flour, a technique more commonly associated with Indo-Chinese dishes like chilli chicken. This approach felt like a misapplication to what should have been a traditional preparation, resulting in a dish that was neither authentic nor enjoyable. Mutton Keema Balls: These were also underwhelming. The filling lacked depth of flavor and was overpowered by an intense gingery aroma. The outer coating, made with panko breadcrumbs, had a noticeable stale oil smell, further detracting from the experience. Mutton Hyderabadi Dum Biryani: This dish, in contrast, was excellent. The rice was soft and aromatic, and the mutton was tender and well-cooked. It stood out as the highlight of the meal and helped redeem the overall experience.
Final Thoughts: Biryani Zest lives up to its name when it comes to biryani. However, the appetizers and non-biryani dishes suggest a level of culinary experimentation that doesn't always pay off. If you plan to visit, I recommend sticking to the biryani offerings, which are clearly the...
Read moreBIG NO FOR VEGETARIANS (Especially Brahmins/Jains)!!!!
We had ordered the food which I thought was Baby corn, and I took a plate, assuming everything in that line was safe.
As I bit into what I thought was a Crispy Baby corn, I immediately felt something was off. The texture was unfamiliar—fibrous, greasy in a way no vegetarian food should be. I asked a nearby colleague what it was, and to my horror, she casually said, "Oh, that’s chicken."
That thought, the guilt. For someone like me, this isn’t just a "dietary slip"—it’s a violation of deeply held values. It felt like I had betrayed everything I stood for. This experience was a painful reminder that in a diverse society, one must always be cautious when one’s values are so deeply tied to something as seemingly simple as food.
I approached one of the service managers at the venue to report this. I expected concern, maybe even an apology. But instead, the manager shrugged and said dismissively:
“Just One Piece of Chicken” – A Brahmin’s Experience Just one piece?
For him, maybe it was nothing. A logistical mix-up. A small, edible error.
But for me, it was a violation—of my faith, my discipline, my identity. That "one piece" shattered years of spiritual practice and the sacred commitment I’ve kept since childhood. His words felt like a slap—not because of what was said, but because of what wasn’t: there was no understanding, no respect, no accountability. I asked how such a mix-up could happen in a vegetarian section. That’s when he admitted:
“Actually, veg and non-veg were cooked in the same vessels in the kitchen. But we kept them separate on the counter.”
That was the final blow. It wasn’t just an accident. It was carelessness mixed...
Read moreThis is fairly a new branch of biriyanizone next to Manyata and I took my colleagues here for a quick dinner. Affordable, good quality food, many many choices apart from biriyani too and quick service are few of the points for which I’ll definitely visit again.
The dishes which stood out for me and I would like to try them again were.. chicken Reshmi kabab, chicken Sholay kabab, fish ajwaini tikka, mutton seekh kabab, mutton fry and mutton biryani. Other dishes which we also tried were prawn Manchurian, prawn biryani and lasooni chicken curry which I found average and thought we could have been better. The desserts are yet to be added in the menu and have only different ice creams, which was a little disappointing.
Chicken Reshmi kabab and Sholay kababs were my favourites. Reshmi kababs were succulent, creamy texture on the top, perfectly seasoned and the beaten layer of egg was giving it an amazing nee dimension all together. Similarly Sholay kababs were spicy, soft and extremely flavourful.
Ajwaini fish tikka was again up to mark. The fish used was fresh which is kind of important whenever seafood is concerned.
In biryani the mutton biryani was definitely my favourite. Succulent pieces of mutton, literally falling off the bone.
I did pair my food with Masala cold drinks, though this was not in the menu but they served it when I requested them. For that one gesture I can give full points to them.
My only disappointment was there were not any options for dessert apart from ice creams, they said they are yet to add the desserts in the menu.
Definitely a place worth going with friends and...
