Today I had the pleasure of experiencing the Jamai Shasthi Thali, at ESSENCE OF KOLKATA which is an extraordinary Experience. The thali, featuring an assortment of fish, chicken, and mutton, showcases the rich and diverse flavors of Bengali cuisine, and it did not disappoint.
The quality of the dishes was exceptional. The fish, a staple in Bengali cuisine, was fresh and cooked to perfection. The mutton was tender and flavorful, and the chicken was juicy and well-seasoned. Each component of the thali was prepared with great care, using high-quality ingredients that enhanced the overall taste.
The portion sizes were generous, ensuring that even the heartiest of appetites would be satisfied for two people. The thala included a variety of items, each substantial enough to enjoy without feeling overwhelmed.
The taste was simply outstanding. Each dish had its unique flavor profile, yet they complemented each other beautifully. The starter items were Aam Murgi Cutlet and fish chop which were perfect kick starter as an appetizer to start with. The Sorse Iilish was rich and aromatic, with a perfect balance of spices. The mutton curry, with its deep, robust flavors, melted in the mouth. The Gandhoraj chicken dish was a delightful blend of spices, tender and succulent. Accompaniments such as white rice, Basanti Polau , Badshahi Daal , Echorer Dalna layers of flavor and texture, making every bite a new experience. The Jamai Shasthi Thali is a true celebration of Bengali culinary. Whether you're a connoisseur of Bengali cuisine or trying it for the first time, this thala is a must-try, offering a delightful journey through the rich tapestry of flavors that Bengali cuisine is...

Atmosphere is not that good just you can sit and have some tasteless food and that's all . Main USP is food here which is not good at all . Taste and quality absolutely not up to the mark. At this Price point quality and taste should be top notched.
We took chicken biryani and basonti polao combo .
Biriyani: first of all it wasn't a biriyani, half cooked rice with colour no taste no salt no aroma. Only 2 big chicken pieces was there. Which was really big but again felt not marinated for long and felt like its prepared long back . We can't call it biriyani .
Polao : I don't know what to call . Waht it was. Not cooked rice with food colour with some cashew nuts and resins . Trust me you cannot have it . Fish fry was without fish. I dont know if it was a bengali dish or something else.
Sweet: sweet was surely expired, some bad smell was coming from inside.
Recommandation : Google was asking to recomanded dishes to try but trust me this is not the place you should opt for your bengali food cravings not at all . Try other options in Whitefield.
I was thinking to not to give any review for this place and silently avoid this place for next time. But while scrolling the internet suddenly I found reviews and it's looks completely paid or fake reviews (which is not good for community.) so thought to share a true review which will help the owner to serve better in future and common people like me
Suggestion to owner: please change your chef with immediate effect. Change your recipe immediately. Its not going to work at all with current...
Read moreWe visited 'The Essence of Kolkata' with high hopes of indulging in authentic Bengali cuisine and experiencing a taste of home away from home. However, our overall experience left much to be desired.
While the ambiance was passable, the service fell far short of expectations. Despite being seated promptly, the lack of acknowledgment from the service staff was disheartening. Witnessing other diners, including a family with a young child, leave due to prolonged waits for their food only added to the disappointment.
As for the food itself, it was regrettably average. None of the dishes managed to impress or evoke that 'wow' factor one hopes for when seeking out authentic cuisine especially on a Sunday afternoon - ask a fellow Bengali
In the service industry, hospitality is paramount, and unfortunately, 'The Essence of Kolkata' fell short in this regard. While I had hoped for a memorable dining experience, I left feeling let down. If you're considering a visit, I would advise managing your expectations, especially if you're anticipating a satisfying afternoon meal or dinner.
As a diner, it would be helpful for us to be informed about any staffing issues affecting service.
I'm optimistic that my feedback will be taken constructively and that the necessary improvements will be made. Looking forward to seeing positive...
