This is my 'go to' Chinese restaurant in South Bangalore. This specific restaurant is in Vijaya Bank layout, right next to Playtopia where I generally take the kids for a kiddy workout.
While I am the adventurous sort when it comes to food, some days you're just not in the mood to experiment. Shanghai court is one of those places. As close to comfort food you'd get in a desi chinese/thai restaurant format. Also, I'm a carnivore so no clue on how the vegetarian part of the menu tastes like.
Soups were never my thing so I've never ordered that though , I'm given to believe, the manchow and lung Fung are really good. That goes for their desserts selection as well. Boring and therefore, no comments.
But just about everything else is good and value for money. I don't typically make sweeping comments of this sort but I can't seem to find fault in any of their other menu items, which isn't too expansive nor too restricted.
The food isn't pretentious and has an immaculate flavor balance. The sweet, sour, spice and salt elements are almost always just right. Portions are good enough, no complaints there either. The folks here aren't terribly creative or innovative which is good because, remember, you are not going here to experiment.
Service is quick or quicker depending on when you go. No loitering around. I think they actually like getting the food off their hands and on the table.
I find it hard to criticize Shanghai court. You get what you expect. Consistently. And that, believe me, is a tough ask.
Go try it. You won't be surprised. And your stomach will be...
Read moreShanghai Court stands out as a go-to Chinese restaurant in its area. While two-wheeler parking is limited, the seating arrangement inside is comfortable and ample, meaning you generally won't face a wait even during peak hours. The service is commendably fast, and the ambiance is pleasant, though not particularly spectacular. Having visited multiple times, I've sampled several menu items. The Munchow Soup is an absolute must-try. For appetizers, the Chicken Lollipop is a definite winner; it's a semi-gravy dish featuring deliciously juicy chicken lollipops. Other appetizers like dragon roll, pepper chicken, and paneer Manchurian were good, but I've personally had better elsewhere. When it comes to main courses, I've tried their chopsuey and various rice dishes like leafu rice, Schezwan fried rice, garlic fried rice, and triple fried rice, but they weren't the strongest offerings on the menu. The menu is moderately priced, striking a good balance. Overall, I can definitely recommend Shanghai Court if you're looking for a reliable Chinese restaurant...
Read moreI have been there several times just to enjoy their food. And they satisfied me most of the times, except one or two times. Every time I go there with group. And we always order a noodles dish. With that we order fried rice also. In starters they have good options of soups. The soups are really good in quality and in taste. If you two people are going there order soup like 1/2. But if you 3 are there don't order like 2/3. May be you'll not get that. Instead you'll get 1/2 in each bowl. At least we felt so. Even if you are a foodie like me and want to taste new things, you can try their Thai dishes. We have tried Thai soups and those were good in taste. Once we order chicken Manchurian, we did not like that much. Otherwise till now whatever side dishes we have order, all are good and tasty. Most importantly, the quality of the food they serve with respect to the price, is a real deal. This is a proper family restaurant, but yes you are welcomed if you are with...
