TRADITIONAL SPECIALITY GUARANTEED
The Neapolitan Pizza aka Pizza Napoletana (Naples Style Pizza) is a Traditional Speciality Guaranteed (TSG) product in Europe. The TSG certification attests that a particular food product objectively possesses specific characteristics which differentiate it from all others in its category, and that its raw materials, composition or method of production have been consistent for a minimum of 30 years. Brick and Clay, Bhubaneswar just does that by maintaining the pure essence of Neapolitan Pizza with the basic ingredients of Tomatoes and Mozzarella Cheese. Situated in the plush DLF Cybercity, Patia this Wood Fired Pizzeria is a welcome delight for Pizza lovers. The restaurant is thoughtfully designed, tastefully lit and has a comfortable indoor seating area peppered with billboards explaining the history of Neapolitan Pizza and its heritage.
Owing to the holy Hindu month of Kartik, we stuck only to vegetarian food. We tried the Chilli Di Spinacio and Patata Di Fungo among Pizzas. Both the Pizzas were well baked to perfection with the ingredients being delightfully good. As sides, we ordered the Wood Fired Foccacia with Cheese, which tasted best with the spicy Marinara Sauce Dip. For a change, my wife who generally doesn’t like the taste of cheese was eager enough to relish on the Mozzarella Cheese topped on the Pizzas, owing to its definitely good taste and aroma. Overall, I would give full marks for the preparation as well as the taste as this place prepares Pizzas the way they should be actually prepared. The Hippie Drink (Margarita flavor) we tried along with the food was a just okay and can be given a miss.
The Pizzas are freshly prepared on order and the whole process can be enjoyed by the Customers. The wood fired kiln for baking Pizzas is placed in an open kitchen area, which forms a part of the restaurant. Preparation time is surprisingly quick, as it wouldn’t take you ages of waiting (yawn!) to receive your food order, as in other Pizzerias. The genuine flavour of the ingredients leaves a lasting impression, thus helping in creating an easily distinguishable and independent taste for each of the Pizzas. Special mention for the gluten-free thin crust that was a welcome reprise and reminded me of the genuine Italian thin crust Pizzas I had got to relish in Venice, Florence and Rome, almost a year ago. Food quantity is generous and pricing hits the bull’s eye with all food items in the menu reasonably priced so that one can visit the place, even on a regular basis. The employees are very courteous and friendly, and gave us valuable suggestions regarding choice of dips and drinks to help improve our dining experience.
Finally, if you are a fan of authentic thin crust wood fired Italian Pizza, then ‘Brick and Clay’ is the place for you. Given the ambience, quality of food and dining experience, would definitely love to visit this place time and...
Read moreMost of Brick and Clay's brilliance can be attributed to the wood fired oven.
For those who dont know, if you ever find yourself in Naples and fancy a slice you'd only find pizzas that are made in these ovens specifically, which cooks the bread very fast and melts the cheese instantly.
Brick and Clay's quality of crust is impeccable as expected from these kinds of ovens. Focaccia with cheese, garlic bread, and calzone, everything baked at extremely high temperatures making for a delectable bite. You'll never discard the edges, as they are so full of flavor.
Coming to the pizzas, the sheer variety will leave you flabbergasted. There are many sauces, from the classic marinara, bechamel or pesto to the unique ones such as the purple sauce, carbonara sauce or the one we tried: the roasted pumpkin sauce. The cheeses are also quite a few, starting from the basic mozzarella, they also have bocconcini, bufala, feta and gran padano parmesan. If you're an ultimate cheese lover then there's the fabled Quattro formaggio, or the four cheese pizza featuring emmental, ricotta, parmesan and moz. You know they use very high quality products including the finest grade Extra Virgin Olive Oil and imported cheeses.
The dish of the day was the calzone, amazing flavours, spicy and tangy. A must try. Zucca Gamberetto, or the pumpkin sauce pizza was much blander, and I would think that sticking to basic sauces would be a better option in this place. We also tried a pesto dip, and that was a bit bitter as well, and left much to be desired for. The Margherita was some of the best I have had in town, but the calzone was absolutely outstanding.
We need to try their...
Read moreI seriously couldn't think of writing hence, I'm gonna share what my friend (who visited with me to this place) had said about this pizza place. We were really confused like what to say. So, he compared this place to the Bollywood movie 'Kalank', which had a star studded cast, beautiful cinematography, perfect execution of the plot and incredible soundtrack yet it didn't work. Just like that We ordered a pizza and it was absolutely beautiful with fresh cheese and full of toppings, a base that's soft as feather but it just lacked. I don't know why and how but I just didn't appreciate the taste. But then we noticed the nearby tables and them asking for some sauce which we too asked for and the waiter showed us four kinds of add ons like pesto sauce, marinara sauce, chilli oil and we ordered pesto sauce and it was probably the best pesto sauce I have ever tasted. The pizza tasted amazing with it and then we realised that after having the desi versions of pizza with all makhani sauce and tandoori toppings from Domino's for all this year we kinda have lost the pallette for this fine Italian one. Am I gonna visit again? Hell yeah. Because everything is so perfect and they have a lot of pasta options too which I wanna try. And I definitely would request others to visit too. Because I have complaints except for the waiter who should guide us through the menu, suggesting his favourites or explaining us like what should we order. He was so uninterested and look tired. Anyways, definitely visit here for some authentic Neapolitan style pizza which I have not tasted anywhere in...
