Visited this shop 2-3 months back after reading the reviews and also watching videos on Youtube by some known food vloggers. I reached early at 12:15 PM or so. I asked him-2 plates of veg biryani, parcel. He said it will take 15 minutes. I was the first customer, there was no one else. I waited in the sun and also took a tea break because I had other places to go and if I leave here,I would go in other direction. So, finally after 45 minutes, 1 small handi came off and it was kept on counter. That was the veg biryani but it was kept on the that side where chicken was being marinated in the back shop(2 shops side by side). My initial impression was-that was chicken biryani. Then the big handi came after 5-10 minutes. By that time, people had gathered there and were in a rush,shouting-give me a plate to eat, give me 1 parcel. The person was asking everyone to do the payment first, which I did much earlier because I was determined to taste the so called famous biryani. I waited for 5 minutes but the person was busy in ordering others to give plate for eating or make parcel. When he gave 5-6 person who came much later,I said- my 2 parcels. He said-okay okay,1 veg 1 chicken right? I said-No,2 veg.He then said- veg biryani was out 20 minutes ago, I asked if anyone want veg, you did not say anything. He never did something like that but he was instructing the boys to help him remove the handi and place the veg handi on the other side. Also being the first person to the shop, he would have asked me first what was my order again when both handi's were put down for serving if he was under the impression that I want 1 veg and 1 chicken biryani. He did not do that either. So, I took 2 packets after he packed. The taste of veg biryani was ordinary, nothing special but it was better than another hyped biryani point in bhubaneswar, which is even more famous and hyped but my very first taste of the veg biryani from there was horrible. Here, the taste is better but still needs more improvement as I tried another biryani palce near Fortune tower(no not the hyped sanjay dada biryani, people get in line to eat. I am a foodie but wait 1 hour to get food, that is out of question). I have self-respect and if I get bad behaviour from one person, outlet no matter how famous they are, I never visit there. It happened with some famous food and other places which I visited 10-15 years back but never visited again. Anyway, the person in charge should deal with customers in first come first serve basis. As for chicken biryani, I am not sure as I am a vegetarian. But a crowded place and if you want to have biryani at good price, give this palce a try. Price wise quantity is good. Taste, you have to determine. I have tasted veg biryani in Oman,Dubai, much expensive ones, better taste so I could feel the difference but then there is no comparison. There was a restaurant in Oman where Odia cooks worked. During the veteran cricket series, Ranatunga and Jayasuriya came there to eat chicken biryani as someone told them about...
Read moreSahoo Biryani has been a well-known name in the area for quite some time and gained a lot of popularity through social media. It was previously one of the go-to places for good biryani, with consistent taste and decent portion sizes. However, after the recent hype and increased crowd, the overall quality seems to have gone down a little. The biryani is still decent, but if you’ve tried it in the past, you might notice a drop in the flavor and freshness.
The place often looks very crowded, especially during peak hours, but don’t be completely fooled by the crowd. While it’s still popular, the current taste may not always live up to the expectations set by the earlier reputation or the online buzz. Service can also get a bit rushed when it’s busy, which affects the experience.
If you are exploring biryani options in the area, it might be worth checking out nearby places like Flavours of Chicken or Zero Oil Biryani. Both offer good taste and value for money, and they are strong alternatives if you are looking for something different or more consistent.
Overall, Sahoo Biryani still holds its place as a known spot, but it may not be the best option right now if you are expecting the same taste and quality it once had. Worth trying if you haven’t before, but manage your...
