Cosy, homely, warm and chit-chatty place. One may enjoy their time smoothly but it stays a little crowded mostly as well. For this, I must compliment the staff for patiently and softly managing the crowd within (but one should expect waiting, specially at the weekends)
This restaurant is in Khanna market and can be easily located by just asking the locals or by just strolling in the market (like us) or via Google Maps.
Nothing better than an affordable place with good food and comfortable seating. I liked the vibe of the place, very Indian. Nothing fancy or flashy but just a place to gather, relax and have a good chat with your friends.
We ordered from the "Try Our Best" section in the menu. Before we got served with the order, we received 4 complimentary dishes - coconut chutney, beetroot chutney, mint chutney and rasam. All of them were delicious. Further with the order, we received sambhar as well. One can ask for refills as well. The staff warmly provides it.
• One Kurkure Idly, One 3 in 1 Dosa and 2 Filter Coffees •
The whole order tasted great. We were curious about the 3 in 1 Dosa and were expecting one dosa but we got 3 dosas in a plate with 3 different fillings (masala aloo, masala paneer and the third was some garlic chutney spread all inside the dosa). Amazing. It was very fulfilling and flavorful. Even the kurkure Idly, the small pieces of Idly were crispy, and a little spicy. All of it was appetizing.
The staff is very thoughtful. Considering the fact that the coffee might get cold while we finish the meals, they served the coffees to us on a little delay and with permission. Had the filter coffee at the end and kept that warm-homely flavour for a while.
While paying the bill, we impromptuly decided to have a paan. Metha paan, it was. For me, the sweetness was accurate.
Apart from this, we had our own lunches (from home) which we had after having our order - faced no complaints from the staff. Our visit was worth it.
Would highly recommend a visit! (Will...
Read moreIf you can let go of the cool Ambiance of Sagar Ratna and done with the firang friendliness of Naivaidyam, try Chidambaram. It’s a small south Indian eatery in Khanna Market, Lodhi Colony. What made us write a review about this place is their attempt to take basic simple South Indian food beyond Masala Dosa and Uttapam.
We recently went there for dinner. This small but clean place had basic décor – a small statue of Chidambaram temple on a wooden stand, good air-con and sandalwood incense fragrance. In fact, their menu had a description of Chidambaram temple! All this made Chidambaram interesting enough to sit, talk and enjoy dinner.
They served Rasam as a welcome drink along with three typical red, white and green South Indian Chutneys. Rasam was very hot and spicey.
On their ‘Today’s Special’ list, we saw a few different options. We ordered a 3in1 Uttapam. It’s a plate with three small Uttapams – Coconut, Mix veg and Panner. We loved the concept. You are not stuck with one variety of a huge Uttapam. Instead you can taste three different Uttapams in one plate. The serving was enough for two of us but we had already ordered another dish from their specials – Soy Dosa. It was a thin and light Masala Dosa made with soy flour, quite like Rava dosa minus the crispiness. This dosa was more on soft side. We liked this one too.
Very reasonable prices in the menu tempt you to try more stuff even if you don’t have space in your tummy. We ordered Kesari Bhat for dessert and coffee. Kesari Bhaat was freshly made, low on sweetness and looked amazing. Coffee was good too.
The staff was courteous and friendly. Serving time was reasonable. This is surely not a place for fine dining but definitely a recommended eatery when you want to eat nice South Indian, easy on...
Read moreA lovely find hidden in the Lodhi market chanced upon courtesy Google Explore and reviews on Google maps. I think it important enough to pay it forward and hence the review. The place is small with a seating capacity of not more than 28-30 at a time and is cramped for space. The entrance is rather narrow as well and while the place has a hand-wash not sure if it has a washroom. But it more than makes up for the all the shortcomings through the warmth and hospitality and the fresh and tasty food served. It's a traditional south indian place but seems to have some innovations up its sleeve as well which are known as Chidambaram's best. As soon as you are seated, hot and spicy rasam is served to whet your appetite and palate. We ordered a Ragi paneer dosa and special 3 Uthapams, both from the Best collection which were a pleasant surprise in terms of the taste. These two items were more than sufficient for the two of us and while we were quite hungry it was a struggle to finish the items. There are 3 chutneys served alongside, the usual coconut chutney but with an unusual twist, the green chutney which is spicy and the red chutney which was a very welcome add-on not just because of the taste but also as it's made from tomato, beetroot, chilli. We got some lemon rice packed for the kids and it was delicious too. The meal was closed with a cup of hot filter coffee which was nice and strong. A fantastic place for a lovely south Indian meal. Not an upscale or fancy place but has all the basics right! Go...
