I first visited Udupi café in 1984 but kept on going back with my family and friends for its filter coffee, Rava masala dosa and kokum soda. It was the first place I ever tried any authentic South Indian dish or drink. The sambhar has a powerful flavour profile of hing (asafoetida), which is light on stomach with various combinations. The Bene special Dosa is crisp, with light podi masala and served with boiled masala aloo, delicious onion and coconut chutney and sambhar. I ordered medu vada and Kokum soda my favourite which was so refreshing and not over sweet but sour which was like a energy and immunity booster drink. I keep coming back to this place for its taste, hospitality and ever evolving kolam designs on the walls of this beautiful cosy eatery. Udupi Cafe is a basic South Indian Food place with some Chinese options in the menu too. Since it's located at ITO just next to Doll Museum, major chunk of their diners are people from the adjacent newspaper offices. We recently went for dinner and ordered Mysore masala dosa, Udupi masala dosa, fried idli, curd rice and steam idli. The food was basic but the spice level was really high. People who can handle very spicy food might like it but for us it was very difficult to enjoy the sambar as it was terribly spicy. We liked fried idli though with chutney. The staff is not very active. Every time you need something you have to call on them. They don't check if your sambar or chutney needs a refill. Filter coffee was also very disappointing. It tasted like pre made coffee warmed again before serving. The milk used in it tasted a bit salty. We visited after a long gap but their quality has really dropped. Also we would not call it pocket friendly.

The place is bustling in the lunch hour and hardly you will find a place to sit in the first go. You might even in case your reach a bit early. They serve both South Indian and Chinese options, coupled with some beverages as well. The menu is not very elaborate and is only 3 pages long, with some options mentioned on the black board as well. I asked the person what to order and he recommended me the South India thali and I went ahead with the same. Also, ordered a mysore masala dosa. As there was no place to sit, I decided to do a take away. The food was decent and not much of a specialty. The thali was average, considering I am staying in South India these days and know what you get in the thali. But still it was good for one time and so was the dosa. Overall, the place is worth a visit, but there are other options as well in the vicinity. Happy Eating!!!

Title: A Hidden Gem for Food Lovers!

I recently visited Udupi Cafe and I have to say, it exceeded all my expectations. Tucked away in a cozy corner of the city, this cafe offers a delightful escape from the hustle and bustle.

Ambiance: The moment you step in, you're greeted by a warm and inviting atmosphere. The decor is charming, with a mix of vintage and modern elements that create a relaxed and comfortable vibe. Perfect for a casual lunch or a coffee date!

Service: The staff at [Cafe Name] are incredibly friendly and attentive. From the moment we arrived, we felt welcomed and well taken care of. Our server was knowledgeable about the menu and made excellent recommendations.

Food: The star of the show! The menu is diverse, offering a range of delicious options for every palate. We started with the bruschetta, which was fresh and bursting with flavor. For the main course, I had the grilled chicken sandwich, and it was simply divine – tender, juicy, and perfectly seasoned. My friend opted for the vegan Buddha bowl, which was equally impressive, packed with vibrant, healthy ingredients.

Drinks: Their coffee is top-notch, with a rich, smooth flavor that coffee lovers will appreciate. We also tried their signature smoothies, and they were refreshing and expertly blended.

Value: Given the quality of the food and the overall experience, the prices are very reasonable. You get excellent value for your money, and portion sizes are generous.

Overall: [ Cafe Name] is a fantastic spot that I highly recommend. Whether you're looking for a great place to catch up with friends, enjoy a quiet meal, or simply savor a good cup of coffee, this cafe has it all. I will definitely be...

I have been visiting Udupi Cafe at ITO, Bahadur Shah Zafar Marg since my childhood. Later when I started my career as journalist and started working in Patriot newspaper Udupi became a place of regular visits. I continue to visit Udupi Cafe even today along with my family. My wife and son too happen to like this place and the food served here. Udupi is a small cafe; good for a bite while you are around this area or you may take your family if you are not looking for a swanky and luxurious eatery. Small, reasonable and quite nice place for eating south Indian dishes and that too on a budget. Udupi serves good dosas, vadas and idlis. They also have a variety of rice dishes. In summers their 'chach' (buttermilk) is a great hit. Udupi also serves decent south Indian coffee in typical south Indian style. They have thalis too whi h are available only during lun h time. The vegetables in the thali have always disappointed ne as they lack that south Indian flavour. I, therefore, avoid ordering a thali here. Apart from south Indian dishes Udupi also serves chinese food. I particularly like American chopsuey and chilly garlic noodles. Many people also order noodles and manchurian here. I would love if the cafe could offer combo Chinese stuff too. Those who wish to have non vegetarian stuff will face disappointment here. Overall a good eatery at very reasonable prices in the...
