Anjoned Hostel & Cafe — Restaurant in Goa

READ BEFORE BOOKING! 5th to 7th Nov, 2021

We booked a quadruple room at Anjoned for two nights after reading positive reviews about the place. If only we knew that we were in for a surprise.

Our check-in was at 1 pm but we informed the property that we would be reaching late. When we reached at 5 pm, the owner, Shiva, asked us to chill in the cafe till our room was ready. While waiting, I had ordered a black coffee & in spite of having a coffee machine, I was served instant coffee mixed with hot water.

Also, we were told that the room we booked wasn't available (didn't tell us why) & that we'll be getting a newly ready room & we'll be the first guests to stay there. After waiting for over an hour (tired from travelling), we were taken to our room.

Excited about it being a 'new' room, we were soon met by disappointment. The room just had a bed & a floor mattress, a cupboard & a table. While we were in the room, two handymen were sent to INSTALL the AC, which took 30 mins. We received bottled water after complaining about the lack of amenities.

The bathroom didn't have a bucket or mug, no hooks to hang clothes, no toiletries & no hot water. After asking, we were given the bucket, soaps for toiletries & still no hot water. We even got the dustbin after asking for it.A refrigerator was part of our room which was brought up later after reminding them but unfortunately it required a bigger socket. So it was left just like that in our room.

The next morning, we went to the cafe for breakfast since it was part of our deal but the chef arrived 30 mins later (11 am) & we got our breakfast an hour later.

At night when we returned to our room, there was no electricity. When we reached out to Shiva, he didn't seemed too concerned but he offered us a different room to freshen up which was across the street. By the time we collected out stuff, the electricity was back on. This time we insisted we want hot water & it was sent to our room bucket by bucket.

The next morning, since we knew breakfast takes a while, we ordered an hour early before heading to the cafe. But they didn't fail to disappoint us again. We had to wait an hour only to find out that the chef forgot about our order & we were served one sandwich instead of four.

One thing to note, if you're told you'll get something in 5 mins, get ready to receive it an hour later or never ever. All in all, it was a highly disappointing experience & the management is totally oblivious about running a hospitality business. Me & my friends even cleaned the room by our self because no one was sent up to do it. The positive reviews are truly a mystery, maybe there was a different management before.

P.S. The only nice thing about the place is...

First things first, the motel is very clean and is close to the beach. That’s something precise I was looking for my short staycation in Goa, near Anjuna beach as I heard this place has one of a kind stays when compared to other famous beaches Baga and Calangute. After lots and lost of search on the internet and juggling between multiple apps, this Anjoned cafe and hostel caught my eye on Agoda. Honestly, the cafe is an eye catcher. I just gave some basic look over the room and amenities this property is providing me for a good 3/4 nights stay, as my initial plan was to switch my stay to different places, considering being the first time solo travel. I took a private single room. Well, later I surely extend my stay here till the last day of my staycation because this place felt like home. The staff and the cafe, people are so friendly and welcoming. Bed and breakfast is so on point that we can’t expect more. Breakfast is included in the the stay, yes it’s complimentary. Day starting with a good coffee is a magic within. Adarsh makes amazing cappuccino, and the property owner Shiva is friendly and helpful with all my stay there from reservation to check-out. He makes some nice cocktails and mocktails, lil touch of his personalised drinks makes perfect one. He’s just a short call away if you have any silly concerns or need of any help with, like nice places to visit and to go around what to see in Goa, yea quite easy to talk to. Shiva plays guitar and sings so well..cool voice he’s got. The gigs are too good, all the day music at the cafe is enchanting. He even helped with my return taxi to the airport, all in hand, isn’t it?. The food here is quite yum and amazing. A must try is Goan Fish Thali. Above all this, the room is clean and neat, well maintained and the linens were changed as regular as required by sweet Aayi. Oh, all the dorms and the private rooms at this property has air conditioning, which makes more perfect to be refreshed after coming out from a hot sun as we all know how the temperature and weather looks like in Goa. I had a great experience staying here, I use to spend more time at the cafe, working from there and playing with this naughty cute boy Bubble the Labrador. Last day leaving Goa and this place felt so missing. I’m definitely gonna stay at this place again whenever my next plan to Goa for sure....
