Bab’s Hideout, South Goa – A Monsoon Paradise with Rustic Charm
Tucked away in the tranquil corners of South Goa, Bab’s Hideout is exactly what its name suggests — a serene retreat with soul-soothing vibes, perfect for unwinding amidst nature. We visited during the monsoon, and the setting couldn’t have been more idyllic. With the rain painting everything lush green, the entire place radiated peace, calm, and that classic laid-back South Goa energy.
The vibes are what hit you first — rustic yet cozy, with warm wooden tones, earthy textures, and an open layout that blends seamlessly with the natural surroundings. The music is on point — not too loud, but enough to create an ambient backdrop for conversation or simply soaking in the moment. Whether you’re with friends, a partner, or even solo, it’s a spot where time slows down, and you genuinely feel present.
The hospitality deserves a special mention — warm, attentive, and not at all overbearing. It’s the kind of place where you feel like a welcomed guest rather than just another customer. The staff seems genuinely happy to serve and knows the menu well.
Coming to the food, Bab’s Hideout truly delivers. Every dish we ordered was a hit.
The Calamari Tempura was a standout — perfectly crispy, seasoned with just the right amount of spice, and cooked to perfection. It had that satisfying crunch followed by tender, flavorful squid inside.
The Rum Beef Starter was another winner — juicy, well-marinated, and portioned generously. The rum added a subtle depth to the flavor without overpowering the meat.
The Pork Ribs with Tomato Apple Jus were a perfect balance of sweet, tangy, and smoky. The ribs were cooked till tender and fell right off the bone. Easily one of the best ribs we’ve had in Goa — absolutely no complaints here.
We wrapped up the meal with the classic Serradura dessert. While it could have been a tad more layered in flavor or texture, it still offered a sweet, creamy ending to a fantastic meal.
What really elevates the experience at Bab’s Hideout is the atmosphere. You’re not just dining — you’re experiencing something. The gentle patter of monsoon rain, the greenery around, the slow pace, the great music — it’s like slipping into a quiet rhythm of Goa that many tourists often miss. It’s rustic, it’s real, and it’s refreshingly unpretentious.
In summary, Bab’s Hideout is a gem — a perfect combination of amazing food, soulful vibes, and a peaceful setting. It captures the essence of South Goa — laid-back, flavorful, and deeply satisfying. Highly recommended if you’re looking for a place that feeds both your stomach and your soul. Will...
Read moreSummary: It’s scary when the fastest thing that arrives is your bill. For everything else be prepared to wait for an eternity and you still may not get it. Don’t believe in google reviews. I decided to go to Babs after seeing great google reviews, so obviously the expectations were high. Getting table was fast. The captain attended us after 10 mins and we placed an order of Cheese fries, Ghost pork, buffalo wings n starters, prawns curry rice for wife and a Burger for my daughter. Captain informed me that Burger will take 30 mins as every patty is made to order. I was okay with 30 mins. After waiting for 25 mins and no food in sight, the captain informs that making burger is not possible. I had to reluctantly change my order to pasta. After waiting for another 15 mins, fries arrived. It’s was okay. Ghost pork arrived after 10 more mins and the wings took additional 10 mins more. While the portions were good, taste was very average and the delay in service was baffling. The mains arrived after a total of 50 mins from our initial order. Prawns was overcooked and the Goan curry was very bland. Pasta was the only saving grace. When we asked for the bill, they have double billed us for both burger and pasta. The sheer audacity was ridiculous. In short, our experience in Babs was bad to say the least. Poor service, long waiting time and average food. Not worth the...
Read moreThe food at this place was exceptional. One of the best lasagnas I've had. The butter herbed veggies were also extremely tasty. The mashed potato was creamy and moist, like how they make on Masterchef Australia. :P It's more of a seafood and Goan cuisine place, so veggie options were not too many. But what was served was delicious.
The place opens only by lunch, so you can go by 1 pm or so. I've not given it a five star rating because the food took very long to be served, around half an hour. It's a restaurant on the more expensive side (around 350-400 per dish), but the food is worth it.
(Update: I went back there a second time, and this time, we ordered North Indian food. We ordered 3 kulchas and a paneer lababdar. The paneer was extraordinary. Doesn't compare to the masaledar gravies we get in Bangalore. It was subtle and sophisticated, and full of flavour. The kulchas, on the other hand, were extremely generous. Unlike Bangalore where they serve two pieces usually, these kulchas came with some 6-7 pieces each. They were light and fluffy, but still two of us couldn't finish even one and a half. So order only two, if you're...
