Review: Rice Bowl, Colva – A Decent Pitstop for Chinese Cravings

Nestled on the bustling main road of Colva, Rice Bowl is one of those places you might walk past without much thought—but for locals and regulars, it’s a familiar name when you’re craving Indo-Chinese comfort food without burning a hole in your pocket.

The ambience is modest—simple tables, a compact indoor space with AC, and an open roadside seating area that gives off casual canteen vibes. It’s not a place for fine dining, but it does have a certain local charm. Service is usually quick and polite, with staff doing their best to manage crowds during dinner rush.

As for the food—it’s what I’d call reliably average. Dishes like Chicken Fried Rice, Veg Hakka Noodles, and Chilli Chicken deliver exactly what you’d expect: slightly oily, mildly spiced, and generously portioned. Nothing fancy, but good enough to satisfy that greasy Chinese craving. The Schezwan sauce leans sweet rather than spicy, and the soups (especially Manchow) tend to be more cornstarch-heavy than flavorful. If you’re into fried starters, the “Drums of Heaven” are probably your best bet.

Pricing is definitely a plus—most mains range between ₹180–₹250, and portion sizes are enough for two light eaters. It’s a budget-friendly option for a quick dinner or takeout.

In short, Rice Bowl won’t blow you away, but it won’t disappoint either—especially if your expectations are grounded. Think of it as your go-to when you’re too tired to cook, not when you’re looking to impress a foodie friend.

Rating: 3/5 Highlights: Quick service, generous portions, good for groups Downsides: Bland at times, very basic ambience, inconsistent...

A Hidden Gem in Colva – Rice Bowl is a Must-Visit! 🌟

My visit to Rice Bowl in Colva was nothing short of spectacular. From the moment I walked in, I was enveloped in warmth, comfort, and the tantalizing aroma of freshly prepared Goan and Chinese delicacies.

The ambiance strikes a perfect balance between cozy and classy – ideal for both a laid-back lunch or a romantic dinner. But what truly elevated my experience was the exceptional service.

A special shoutout goes to one of the staff members, a German waiter whose professionalism, warmth, and attention to detail were remarkable. He made us feel so welcome, suggesting the best dishes and checking on us just the right number of times. His calm demeanor and genuine smile added a special touch to the meal, making us feel like VIP guests. It’s rare to find such hospitality nowadays, and he truly made our evening unforgettable.

The food was divine – every bite bursting with flavor. From the perfectly spiced starters to the flavorful main course, it was evident that the kitchen takes great pride in what they serve. The rice dishes were especially aromatic and beautifully presented.

Whether you're a tourist or a local, Rice Bowl is an experience worth savoring. I’ll definitely be back – not just for the food, but for the people who make it feel...

Owner is very polite. Plus food is extremely delicious and staff very helpful. Overall great ambience.

Edit on 17 March: It's funny how staff selection can lead to downfall of a place. I have been visiting this place for years and the service i received last Sunday was extremely unprofessional and rude. During closing hours the attendant was a complete obnoxious dude with a let's-close-the-restaurant-quickly attitude. Messed up our order twice and still forgot to get our dish the third time. Plus was arguing the full time. Surprised how a complete unprofessional person has been hired at this good place. The food was also hurriedly prepared as it was the last order (Gobi was sloppy and rice was oily). I had to step up and tell the person at the counter to change my attendant and thankfully he was polite!

I'm changing my 5 star to a 3 star just coz of one horrible experience with this pathetic individual. Really sorry to see the sad plight of this place now. The customers behind me were also going through an argument with the same fellow. This place really needs a redo as it was the best place i ever used to visit in Colva. But now not only have prices increased but so has the obnoxious attitude of employees (in this case only a certain...

I recently visited the renovated Rice Bowl restaurant, and I was blown away by the stunning Asian-inspired interior! The modern decor perfectly complements the Chinese cuisine, creating a warm and inviting atmosphere. But what truly impresses is the food – the same old good taste that I've come to love over the years especially chicken taro nest! The dishes are expertly prepared, with fresh ingredients and bold flavors. The service is also top-notch, with friendly and attentive staff. Whether you're a longtime fan like me or a newcomer, Rice Bowl is a must-visit destination for anyone craving Chinese cuisine in a beautiful setting. Highlights: - Renovated Asian-inspired interior - Chinese cuisine - Excellent service - Cozy atmosphere Recommended for: - Chinese food lovers - Special occasions - Casual dining
