I went there all the way because I had seen very high reviews of the place. Before I start, I would clarify that I ate the South Andhra meal only. The review is based on food, service and price. The atmosphere of the place is nice enough. It is open and seems to be a clean place. The food was ok. It was definitely homely and nice in it's taste but nothing exceptional to write home about. However, the meal itself was filling and tasty. The vegetable dish was not that great and they were trying to say dal (pappu) was also a vegetable. The dessert was a shahi tukda which I sent back. They tried to explain that each day they have a different dessert but for me personally the shahi tukda is a lazy sub par dessert. Others may like it. The rice was of the short grain variety which I liked. The gongura pickle and the podi were nice accompaniments. I will explain further later on why I still put it in the OK range. Service was a bit sub par. For whatever reason there were 4-5 service people in a not so crowded restaurant bringing in 1 or 2 items claiming more is coming. Which is fine but as more was supposedly coming the items on the plate or leaf were becoming cold. At some stage one of the service person was quite curt in the way he expressed the service to which I objected. This was noticed by the owner or manager who perhaps instructed them to pay attention and not let the food go cold. This ended up with each of them paying too much attention. As I would tell one person about someone and get back to food, another would pop up and also me the same questions again - is everything ok? Do you need anything more? Etc. So rather than focusing now on the eating, I was turning left and right to respond. Hence scope for improvement. I was never served water or asked for it throughout the meal even though they kept a copper glass with the leaf. Price for the Andhra meals was 400 plus GST plus a 2% service charge they just add into the bill. INR 428 in total. Now this price is what makes the food component just ok. Ideally such meals are lesser than 100 rupees in Andhra or even other part of the South. Nevertheless Goa is an expensive tourist location. Even account for that, it is my opinion that the price should be around the 200-250 range. The meal is unlimited for a person, so occasionally someone may eat far more than average but there are limits to a rice meal one can consume. For comparative example, around the same price one can get an unlimited Rayal Seema meal in Bengaluru, also a pricey place for food, with far more variety. Kerala meals are cheaper. Be that it may be, for someone searching for a southern palate, the taste was correct and hence should be enjoyable or filling enough.

Saudagar Veg Restaurant in Vagator is a gem for those who crave homely, delicious vegetarian food. Managed and served by a family, the warmth and authenticity reflect in both the service and the flavors. Location: 3.5/5 – Conveniently located on the main road in Vagator, North Goa. Ambience: 4.5/5 – The simple yet charming setup with bamboo and iron furniture exudes positive vibes. It’s cozy and perfect for a relaxed meal. Food: 5/5 – Absolutely delightful! The crispy wada and soft idlis paired with authentic sambhar and chutney are a treat. The aloo parathas are spiced to perfection, and their freshly prepared poha (made on order) is a must-try. Every dish tastes fresh and lovingly made after order. Staff: 4.5/5 – The team is polite, prompt, and attentive. At times you may experience delay yet you’ll feel well cared for. Cleanliness & Hygiene: 5/5 – Spotless and well-maintained, with great attention to hygiene. What could improve? The additional service charge on top of GST is the only downside. While they were open to removing it upon request, it ideally shouldn’t be included. Value for Money: 4.5/5 – Some dishes feel reasonably priced, while others might seem a bit expensive. Overall Rating: 4.5/5 Highly recommended if you’re looking for a budget-friendly vegetarian restaurant in North Goa. Perfect for those who appreciate simple, home-style meals. Must-Try: Crispy Sambhar wada, soft idli and their on-order poha.

If you're looking for a delicious and authentic Indian vegetarian dining experience, then look no further than SAUDAGAR. I recently had the pleasure of dining at this establishment with my family and was blown away by the incredible flavors and warm hospitality. The menu is extensive and features a wide range of vegetarian dishes that are bursting with flavor and spices. From classic favorites like Thali to lesser-known dishes like traditional andhra items, every dish is expertly prepared with fresh ingredients and a passion for flavor. What impressed me the most about this restaurant was the attention to detail and commitment to authenticity. Each dish was served with the perfect balance of spices, and the presentation was beautiful. The staff was also incredibly friendly and accommodating, making the dining experience all the more enjoyable. The ambiance of the restaurant is lovely, with comfortable seating and beautiful decor that transports you to the heart of India.
