I went there all the way because I had seen very high reviews of the place.
Before I start, I would clarify that I ate the South Andhra meal only. The review is based on food, service and price.
The atmosphere of the place is nice enough. It is open and seems to be a clean place.
The food was ok. It was definitely homely and nice in it's taste but nothing exceptional to write home about. However, the meal itself was filling and tasty. The vegetable dish was not that great and they were trying to say dal (pappu) was also a vegetable. The dessert was a shahi tukda which I sent back. They tried to explain that each day they have a different dessert but for me personally the shahi tukda is a lazy sub par dessert. Others may like it. The rice was of the short grain variety which I liked. The gongura pickle and the podi were nice accompaniments. I will explain further later on why I still put it in the OK range.
Service was a bit sub par. For whatever reason there were 4-5 service people in a not so crowded restaurant bringing in 1 or 2 items claiming more is coming. Which is fine but as more was supposedly coming the items on the plate or leaf were becoming cold. At some stage one of the service person was quite curt in the way he expressed the service to which I objected. This was noticed by the owner or manager who perhaps instructed them to pay attention and not let the food go cold. This ended up with each of them paying too much attention. As I would tell one person about someone and get back to food, another would pop up and also me the same questions again - is everything ok? Do you need anything more? Etc. So rather than focusing now on the eating, I was turning left and right to respond. Hence scope for improvement. I was never served water or asked for it throughout the meal even though they kept a copper glass with the leaf.
Price for the Andhra meals was 400 plus GST plus a 2% service charge they just add into the bill. INR 428 in total.
Now this price is what makes the food component just ok. Ideally such meals are lesser than 100 rupees in Andhra or even other part of the South. Nevertheless Goa is an expensive tourist location. Even account for that, it is my opinion that the price should be around the 200-250 range.
The meal is unlimited for a person, so occasionally someone may eat far more than average but there are limits to a rice meal one can consume.
For comparative example, around the same price one can get an unlimited Rayal Seema meal in Bengaluru, also a pricey place for food, with far more variety. Kerala meals are cheaper.
Be that it may be, for someone searching for a southern palate, the taste was correct and hence should be enjoyable or...
