Purohit Dinning Hall — Restaurant in Gujarat

I read through a lot of reviews where people left the establishment one star ⭐ ratings only because the owners are careful about food being wasted or not eaten completely .

The owners including the older male who might be roughly in his late 70's and the younger lady who might be roughly 37 to 40 are very adamant about food being wasted which imo there's nothing wrong about it .

Even though it's a unlimited quantity of food that comes with each thali(plate) and never once do they refuse to serve you another portion but for you to ask them for a large chunk of food at once and then you are not able to eat it or waste it is wrong . They serve small portions of each dish but always pay attention to your plate when empty and come over and ask you do you want anything else.

I rate this establishment very highly because in a country of 1.4 billion people out of which roughly 175 to 200 million people don't have enough to eat it's very wrong 😔 to waste food of any sort 😕 .

Price is roughly INR 220 for limited thali and INR 330 for unlimited quantity. Which roughly amounts to 4 dollars which itself is a insanely good price. I had the most delightful experience dining at Purohit Dining Hall in Vallabh Vidhyanagar! From the moment I stepped in, I was greeted with warm hospitality and genuine care from the owner himself, who also served the food. The authenticity and hygiene of the food were truly commendable, reflecting the rich flavors of Gujarati cuisine.

We had organised a small function at our place on 7 Nov'24 and had planned for a 'gujarati thali' dinner and accordingly zeroed in on Purohit Dining. The place in itself is very well maintained, clean and hygienic. We were received with a warm welcome from the lady owner. As a practice, she requested all guests to not waste food considering that this is a eat all you can type of unlimited restaurant.

The food spread was elaborate and included 2 Sweets, 3 Farsans, 3 sabzis, daal, kadhi, khuchdi, rice and chaas. Unfortunately this is where the good things end. The food being served was cold and this killed the appetite of most of our guests. It appeared to be prepared hours back and was not appropriately heated before being served to us. This created an embarrassing situation for me.

To their credit, although the taste of food was very homely with no garam masalas that would typically cause a heartburn afterwards.

I would recommend this restaurant to all of you but with a little bit of caution. I have had a better experience with 'Divine 2' restaurant instead...
