A Slice of Southern Soul in Every Bite â Shree Laxmi South Indian Cafe
If you're someone who craves pure, authentic South Indian flavors, Shree Laxmi South Indian Cafe is a culinary gem that truly delivers the magic of the South on every plate. From the very first bite, itâs evident that the dishes are prepared with care, rooted in traditional recipes, and cooked with that unmistakable homemade touch.
Whether itâs their crisp, golden dosa with perfectly spiced aloo filling, the softest idlis served with piping hot sambar, or the tangy, aromatic rasam that awakens your sensesâeverything sings of authenticity. The flavors are honest, balanced, and deeply satisfying, making it one of the rare places where quality and consistency go hand in hand.
One of the most delightful touchesâand a standout gesture of their hospitalityâis their complimentary payasam drink. This subtly sweet, warm South Indian dessert beverage feels like a hug after a hearty meal. Itâs comforting, fragrant with cardamom, and has just the right amount of sweetnessâmaking it the perfect way to end your meal on a soulful note.
The staff is polite and welcoming, and the overall vibe is simple yet heartwarmingâjust what youâd expect from a place that focuses more on taste than flash. Itâs a spot where food lovers, especially those who respect tradition, will feel right at home.
Totally recommendableâwhether you're a die-hard South Indian food enthusiast or someone curious to explore the cuisine in its most genuine form, this cafe deserves a spot on your must-visit list.
đ¸ Just one humble suggestion: It would be wonderful if the management could look into organizing a proper parking space. While the food and service are exceptional, finding a spot to park nearby can sometimes be a challenge, especially during peak hours. A bit of parking convenience would make the overall experience smoother and more enjoyable for guests who drive in.
Verdict: Simple place, rich taste, and soulful food. Shree Laxmi South Indian Cafe doesnât just serve mealsâit offers an experience that reconnects you with the roots of South Indian culinary tradition....
Read moreOK, so this coming from Surat's top ten restaurant reviewer, forget everything, drop everything and run to this nice little eatery of authentic south Indian food is what you are looking for, not only this my recommendation is to visit it once at least so that you encourage the entrepreneurship a small time guy who has taken risk of opening this restaurant in the heart of the city without any fanfare. Now the detailed review:
You will find plenty of high end so called South Indian Restaurants in Surat, I won't hesitate to name few here like banana patra, podi, thalaiwa etc, but serving food in brass cutlery, by serving Dosa for Rs 300 or idly for Rs 200, one doesn't become authentic, you need to have connection to the roots, your humble desire to bring the taste from their using good quality ingredients and keeping the prices reasonable for commoners.
SRI LAKSHMI passes on all these indices, just out from a sumptuous breakfast, what nice very very authentic Karnataka taste, the softness of Thatte Idly was just like you are having it in the streets of Bangalore, the samber, the rasam, the chutneys all were awesome, no drama of staff wearing lungis or food being served in brass plates with banana leaves, only good quality neat clean tasty food at very reasonable prices.
Just opposite LOURDES CONVENT school, restaurant is easily locatable, it's a small eatery so it may take time for word of mouth to make people reach here but I guarantee you, your first visit here will force you to come again and again for sure.
Ambiance will improve as foot fall increases, they need to improve a little bit on khopra chutney, other two chutneys are so good, sambre is awesome (it will take time for it to catch as Surtis are habitual of sweet samber served everywhere), dosas, idlys are really good. Highly...
Read moreTLDR: All dosas are masala dosas.
It doesn't matter what you order only thing they send is masala dosa, what I am saying is, any dosa you order will be served as masala dosa plus a bit of what ever they have written, for example i ordered Mysore masala dosa they'll send me masala dosa with a bit of tomato and mysore flavour and no mysore gravy. I had high hopes but sadly they were diminished.
Service was good food arrived fast but when I was asked about my food I politely said what i felt but I was met with an unsavory flavor stating " this is authentic Bengaluru flavor, you wont find that Gujarati flavor here" with a condescending smile. First off i am not looking for "Gujarati taste", I am just looking for some taste which isn't masala dosa but it isn't my prerogative to tell them what to do.
Lastly the ambience could be a lot better but it just feels like a school canteen because its a confined space. Sone noise absorption pads on the wall could be helpful.
Disclaimer: these are my opinions & i do not wish to harm any feelings.
Thank you...
